Celebrating the Doyenne: Dr. Ameesha Mahajan

““For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

A skin, hair, and anti-aging specialist, Dr. Ameesha Mahajan is a leading cosmetic dermatologist from Amritsar, India.

What is your wellness philosophy?

Wellness to me is a sound mind, body and soul. You cannot be perfect in everything from organic food, yoga and exercise but as long as you are on the path of health and happiness, it’s all good.

Your success mantra?

I believe that if you work with passion and your end goal is customer satisfaction (patient satisfaction in my case), you are sure to succeed. I love dermatology and aesthetics and truly believe that my work makes a difference to my patients. I take my patients as my responsibility and I take every step to maximise my results, be it through keeping myself abreast with the latest aesthetic techniques around the world or using world class laser technology at my clinic.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

In my initial days, I once did a chemical peel on a patient on her request even though I felt that she was not a suitable candidate for the procedure. Later, she did not follow my post procedure instructions and ended up getting a complication. Today I believe that as an expert, one should have a more objective approach and only go ahead with a procedure if you believe it is right for the client.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Believe in yourself. If we don’t believe in ourselves, why would the world believe in us? Also, work hard but never forget to enjoy the hustle because it’s all about the journey and not the destination.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

It would definitely be when my fellow dermatologists visit me for their skin and aesthetic procedures. Being in the same field, we know each other’s capabilities beyond the marketing of it all. And there is nothing more humbling than your fellow colleagues trust.
