Celebrating the Doyenne: Darshika Ajoomal

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Darshika Ajoomal is an Entrepreneur, Co-Founder H.Craft Fine Jewellery and the Indian distributor for Lodi shoes Spain & Tissa Fontaneda artisanal handbags.

What is your wellness philosophy?

Clean & healthy living – I am a vegetarian & eat maximum plant based products & use plant based less toxic products for my beauty & lifestyle on a day to day basis whenever I can make a choice . I also believe in alternative medicine like acupressure ayurveda and homeopathy. We live in a highly polluted environment and we plan to continue living in this environment so one must get their immunity as high as they can. I grow a lot of fruits/vegetables & herbs in my farm in Alibaug and try to use these as often as possible. I definitely recommend reading Anthony Williams – medical medium and how he guides us about the hidden healing properties that foods have.

Your success mantra?

Balance – live a life in balance, Enjoy yourself-, your money, your knowledge etc. but always balance it out. Never in excess. Don’t get carried away by the people around you. Azim Premji is a true inspiration.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

Don’t underestimate the client ever. We had some enquiries for Tissa Fontenda (the Spanish leather handbag company I distribute) online from someone in Meghalaya and my staff and me thought lets ignore it and who is going to carry a TF bag aver 1000 euros out there it’s a waste of time enquiry. The client called back and soon selected one of our pieces from the new line and continues to be a steady customer of ours for both Lodi & Tissa and my husband’s fine jewellery brand (H. Ajoomal) as well. Never underestimate the consumer.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Like I wrote earlier, BALANCE is the key. Being a working woman with a family and 2 teenage children, life sometimes is a rollercoaster. I can say enjoy the ride, but that’s a false belief. Enjoy the ride when you can and the other times hang on because the bad times always end. Enjoy the good ones and always have hope that they always come to the rescue.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

I am definitely not a doyenne. I am happy with what I have achieved both in my work life and personal life, but there is a long way to go. I have many more goals to achieve one of them I am stating here- I want a woman in India to have access to products which are well made with great and unique designs to make their day-to-day life more comfortable without compromising on style.
