Celebrating the Doyenne: Dr. Vanshika Gupta Adukia

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Dr. Vanshika Gupta Adukia is a Pregnancy/Childbirth & Lactation Specialist, a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist and the founder of Therhappy.

What is your wellness philosophy?

The feel-good factor is extremely important to me. Wellness to me is not just about health or fitness, but rather it encompasses my emotional well-being first and foremost. I’ve grown to realize that if I am emotionally in a happy space, all the check boxes are ticked off easily; be it health related, professional goals, family dynamics. A happy mind is a happy soul.

Your success mantra?

There is always scope for improvement. This isn’t to undermine oneself or reduce one’s own achievements. But there is a thin line between confidence and overconfidence. I truly believe that one should never stop taking into consideration feedback, learning new skills or assuming to know it all.

In my case, I believe my patients & audience are my biggest teachers. Each of them share something that I can truly imbibe from them.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

Never offer any freebies, complimentary services or ‘packaged options’ even to your closest ones. It’s not about the remuneration, but more about the value your skills bring to those availing your service.

It may sound crude but most people don’t value things that come without a price tag, which means even if you bring the best to the table, if it is not charged for, it will not receive due respect/credit.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

No matter what your position or power may be, never command respect, respect needs to be earned. And also always respect yourself first to be able to receive it as well.

Whether personal or professional, never try playing the woman card to your advantage or in a bid to get your way through. It will not take you too far. In fact, it can eventually backfire at some point.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

My biggest pride is being able to build & grow therhappy as an entity in itself. My goal was always to create awareness in the field of women’s health as a doctor. But with time, therhappy has grown to become multidimensional and see me grow to also become a writer, speaker and, if I may say so, a pregnancy & postpartum motivator.
