Celebrating the Doyenne: Anjali Shah

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Anjali Shah is a Kitchen Stylist, Furniture & Industrial Designer and the founder of The Kitchen Artisan.

What is your wellness philosophy?

Having a positive approach to any situation. Attending the problem right then rather than procrastinating helps me to not stretch the problems and then get all anxious. Focusing on activities other than work, like socializing or travelling so that it keeps me rejuvenated at work and keeps monotonous life at bay.

Your success mantra?

Balancing the quality and quantum of work so that it keeps the business rotating and churning and at the same time, keeps the creative juices flowing. Delegation is an important part of scaling up a business so that you can focus on the bigger things that firstly make you unique in the industry.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

Nothing is nonsolvable! Come with solutions rather than problems to your client. They appreciate that and that’s what they will eventually remember, not the mistakes that happened in the creative experimental process. One lesson – communicate most of the things over a call rather than WhatsApp or text messages, as that can be misinterpreted and then leave a message later for records. Keeping a check on accounts and financing. A constant evaluation of how much profit or loss you make on each project is important. Or else you shall keep designing, but the business as a whole won’t grow well.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

Don’t feel guilty for leaving out something. You can’t have it all. Choose your own game and be proud and happy. If you are happy, it will reflect in your work and relationships.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

I have come to a stage where most of the time I’m able to decide the creative flow of my projects and those are respected by the clients most of the time. The fact of being recognised and compared with international kitchen brands representing in India makes me feel proud and grateful.
