The Ultimate Guide to Shop Designer Dresses

Shalini Gupta, Fashion Designer and Founder of Kaaisha by Shalini, has curated a list of points that you should consider while you are on the lookout for the ultimate outfit. It is the safest and the most foolproof way to plan your outfit.

While there is usually a paucity of time when you need a perfect outfit, there certainly is no paucity of designer wear. There is enough inspiration around us, as we glance through Pinterest, Instagram, lookbooks or even bridal couture magazines. Narrowing down to a handful of dresses takes monumental assessing and scavenging through throngs and heaps of designer wear, whether you visit a store or try your hands at online shopping. At times, the chique and whimsical outfit that you selected is not available in your size, preferred colour, or even worse, someone else was quicker in buying it than you. That surely hurts and feels like a lost battle. In times like these, do not fret, just be calm and plan ahead. Understand what you require and be prepared for all that you’re about to deal with. Being mindful is the key to avert a fashion faux pas!

Over the years, I have noticed, observed, and experienced many occasions where I or the people around me felt perplexed while shopping for a designer outfit. I have curated a list of points that you should consider while you are on the lookout for the ultimate outfit. It is the safest and the most foolproof way to plan your outfit. Here you go!

    ● The occasion: Ask yourself ‘What is the occasion?’. This way, you’ll ensure that you’re dressed to impress. In essence you’ll neither be under-dressed nor (God forbid) overdressed.

    ● Your budget: It certainly leaves you with no choice when you’re running out of time, and you come across a decent outfit which is exorbitantly priced. Let’s avoid such a scenario where we can, and have a budget in mind, beforehand. There’s no point in drooling over outfits that will ultimately burn a hole in your pocket.

    ● Understand your body type: Not all that seems pretty may suit your body type. Instead of being offended when a designer says ‘this wouldn’t look so great on your body type’ be aware and realise what would bring out your best.

    ● Plan well in advance before the event: Even if you can’t plan wayyy before the occasion, it is safe to have some time frame in mind. There could be unforeseen delays, like your outfit might need alteration, or literally anything else. Therefore, plan wisely!

    ● Browse the web: Get inspired by the latest collections that are launched for a particular season. Research before you spend the bucks.

    ● Consult your friends for their advice and/or experience: It is best to have an aerial view of the outfit, and even better if you can have it from your loved ones. They know what suits you and what doesn’t, seek their advice too.

    ● When: Check whether it’s a day or night function. This is essential as the lighting plays an important role in enhancing an outfit.

    ● Where: If it is a destination function, weight and volume of the garment should be kept in mind among other factors.

    ● Narrow it down: Shortlist 4-5 stores and schedule your visits. It would be a million times better to try garments on yourself before ordering them.

    ● Mirror mirror: Listen to what the mirror says. Take a few moments alone with yourself standing in front of the mirror. Assess for yourself.

    ● You matter the most: Be comfortable in your skin and trust your instincts. Being true to your style is the utmost important. Choose an outfit that spells your style and resonates with you.

Last but not the least, comfort along with beauty is the key to a dream designer outfit.
