How to Prepare Healthy Sweets for this Holi

For the healthiest Holi binge!

Holi is almost here. Many people wait for this festival of colors all throughout the year. This is not just an occasion of celebrating the festival with bright and radiant colors but it is also a time when one celebrates this day while gorging on sweets.

Eating sweets always feels good but one needs to be aware of the effects on health too, as excessive consumption of sweets can be harmful to your health. Especially when they are commercially made using low-grade ingredients that are randomly available at various shops across your localities and cities.

However, if you are really fond of eating sweets it is better to go for the healthy version of sweets, the sweets that are prepared at home, keep in mind the health perspective. Here, we will share some sweets and recipes that is not only delicious but are also healthier.

OATS AND NUTS LADDOO

Laddoo made of oats and nuts are a great treat to please your taste buds. Oats and dry fruit laddoo is prepared with oats, jaggery (Gur) and nuts.

RECIPE:

To make this you need to dry roast the powered oats, sesame seeds (Til), nuts such as almond and walnuts. Make a mixture of jaggery and little bit of ghee on a pan with low flame. Add all the ingredients to the mixture. Mix them well and prepare balls out of those, you can even add small amount of milk to help it bind easily. These nutritious laddoos will taste amazing.

As far as nutritious quality is concerned it is full of fiber in oats that help reduce cholesterol, while jaggery and sesame seeds improve iron levels while the Omega-3 fatty acids help against inflammation.

SHEERA MADE OF APPLE AND JOWAR

The tasty Sheera made of apple and Jowar is wonderful containing natural sweetness of apple, raisins, and honey. Sweets without any sugar are like a myth. But this recipe is just that reality. It may not be as sweet as usual Sheera but the moderate sweetness is certainly a lot healthier. Particularly, for those who want replacement against high sugar-based sweets.

Milk provides the health factor to it while at the same time giving taste to it which further gets enhanced by cinnamon (Dalchini). Also, the fruit provides vitamins and Jowar is a complex carbohydrate. The overall taste is very pleasing besides adding a dash of health.

RECIPE:

  • 1.) Heat the ghee put Jowar flour on medium flame.
  • 2.) Now add milk, stir well and cook using a medium flame for 20-30 seconds.
  • 3.) Put 1 cup of water and raisins mix well for a couple of minutes and avoid the formation of lumps.
  • 4.) Now put apples, mix them well cook it for a couple of minutes while stirring.
  • 5.) Put off the flame mix honey and cinnamon powder.
  • 6.) Ready to serve!
