Celebrating the Doyenne: Sana Dhanani

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

With a meticulous eye for detail and compulsive obsession with perfection, Sana Dhanani, founder of The White Door, can be credited with crafting a one-of-its-kind entity in the nailcare and beauty space that places true luxury within the grasp of today’s modern woman.

What is your wellness philosophy?

I believe great skin can boost your confidence like no other. I allow myself a few minutes in the day to adopt a self-care routine and treat my skin to products that help preserve its elasticity, tone, and texture. Not only does this practice help how I feel on the outside, but these couple of minutes of me-time also allow me to completely unwind from my day and have some personal time that is truly mine. Your body serves you in so many ways, there should never be hesitation or shame in taking care of it.

Your success mantra?

The ability to be mindful of the most minute details. Details are everything when it comes to setting up a business. It shows that you have taken the time and effort to make an experience immersive and impactful right from their first visit to every other time, they come by. Be it personally meeting each technician and evaluating them for not only having the technical skills but identifying if they are good listeners and are empathic or when it comes to maintaining international standards of hygiene and housing globally-recognized, high-quality products at the establishment, all are equally crucial in my book.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

You can never stop learning and unlearning. My biggest lesson came after the lockdown when businesses came to a standstill. It allowed me to refocus on what actually mattered to me and helped me make decisions from a more objective point of view.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

As cliche as it may sound, my advice would be to follow your heart and everything else will follow.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

Being instrumental in redefining what a luxury spa establishment looked like in the country, that wasn’t housed within a five-star hotel. Our aim with this venture was to popularise the idea of self-love through immersive, experience-led services that allowed you to unwind from the hustle and bustle of your life. Getting here was not an easy accomplishment, it took time to find our footing. Today, we have garnered the recognition of being the leading luxury destination to the crème de la crème in the media and entertainment industry, and among business professionals, ex-pats, and HNIs.
