“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women's Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.
Samiksha Shetty is a Mumbai-based celebrity fitness instructor, a mental health advocate, and a lawyer.
What is your wellness philosophy?
Pause, Breathe and Let go. All that doesn’t serve you. The most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. The challenge is not to be perfect, it’s to be whole. Find something that nourishes your soul and brings you joy and find enough time through your day to make room for it.
Your success mantra?
Practice makes progress. To get the results you want, you don’t have to be extreme, just consistent. Stay consistent and the results will follow. If you have mastered consistency, you’re halfway there!
A lesson you learned from making a mistake?
There’s a saying -‘If you listen to your body when it whispers, you won’t have to listen when it screams”. One of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned through my practice is that if you do not listen to your body- your body will make you listen. Whether it’s through an injury, physical pain, complete physical and mental exhaustion, loss of stamina, moodiness or maybe a fever.
Any piece of advice for all the women out there?
Don’t judge yourself by the number on the weighing scale. Each of our bodies are different and precious in its own way. Fall in love with the process of taking care of yourself and improving your self-talk.
What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?
I don’t know about pride but I am humbled to be able to reach out to a number of people and help them through their physical and mental health journey. My yoga practice has helped me personally through my mental health and eating disorder and I hope it can do the same for everyone who is willing to try.
