“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women's Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.
Mumbai based Parveen Mahtani is a gold medalist in law. Parveen is presently Chief Legal Officer of Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd.
What is your wellness philosophy?
Listen to what your body whispers to you everyday and you won’t have to wait till it screams. You have to have healthy habits every single day. You have to make food choices intelligently and I have switched to organic food with plenty of fruits, salads, and nuts. Everytime you eat or drink, you have to think whether you are feeding a disease or fighting it. But choices that are healthy have to be made not just for the body, but also for your mind. Work on your self-esteem and happiness quotient. When you have a healthy attitude, it is contagious in all that we do even at work or in our daily lives.
Your success mantra?
Perseverance with humility and small kindnesses lead to excellence.
A lesson you learned from making a mistake?
Most of us are so busy with our professional and personal life that we think that we don’t have enough time to exercise. It is an absolutely distorted paradigm. There was a time that I would keep thinking that I would attend to myself after completing my tasks. One has to make time to prioritise what is most important –yourself!
Any piece of advice for all the women out there?
Be clear on your non-negotiables and stick to it. Define your own success and don’t be bogged down by perceptions. Believe in yourself and do not look for external endorsement to recognise your value.
What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?
When I was younger, I was more of an achievement addict and worked on getting a goal medal in law and climbing the corporate ladder. Today, I take pride in the achievements of my children and the smile that I can bring to someone else’s life. Apart from being a lawyer, I also have an initiative called “Amwizer -Knowledge by Experience” whereby I host sessions with industry experts that inspire and motivate young adults. We have built many connections over our professional careers and my platform seeks to transfer the knowledge to the next generation.
