Celebrating the Doyenne: Kaneesha Jain

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Kaneesha Jain is the Founder of La Poz Place, a modern European bistro in the artistic streets of Bombay. The menu showcases vegetarian flavours rooted in the Mediterranean but mindful of the local palate, which freshly sourced ingredients from India & exotic produce from all over the world.

What is your wellness philosophy?

When it comes to wellness, I believe it’s not just about taking care of your body. Your mind and soul need attention, too! For me, mental and emotional wellness are just as important as physical health. I like to keep my mind sharp by reading, playing games, and learning new things. And to take care of my emotional health, I practice meditation, yoga, and attend workshops on the art of living. It’s all about finding balance and taking care of every part of yourself!

Your success mantra?

My success mantra is all about loving what I do. When you truly enjoy your work, it doesn’t feel like work at all! That’s the kind of passion that has kept me going and driven my success. Of course, I couldn’t have done it alone. My husband and family have been my biggest supporters, always pushing me to strive for more. They inspire me every day!

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in life is that mistakes can actually be good things. It’s easy to feel discouraged when things don’t go according to plan, but I’ve found that mistakes can actually be valuable teachers. Every time I make a mistake, it shows me a path I shouldn’t take. And looking back, I realize that those mistakes have actually helped me get to where I am today. Without those missteps, I wouldn’t have grown and learned as much as I have. It’s all part of the journey!

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

As a woman, I’ve learned a lot over the years about what it takes to thrive in this world. And if there’s one piece of advice I could give to all the women out there, it’s this: be strong and have confidence in yourself! It’s not always easy to stand up for ourselves, but it’s so important. And on that note, never hesitate to stick up for other women in your life too. You never know who might need that support and encouragement. Together, we can accomplish amazing things!

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

As a doyenne, my biggest source of pride is my restaurant, La Pôz Place. It’s been amazing to see the way it’s grown and evolved over the years. And what’s most rewarding is the recognition we’ve received from our patrons and the wider community. Being named the best restaurant by Midday & Times was definitely a highlight for me! But more than that, I’m proud of the values that La Pôz Place represents. We’re a vegetarian restaurant that’s committed to sustainability and using locally sourced ingredients. To me, that’s the kind of impact I want to have on the world – one that’s both delicious and responsible!
