Celebrating the Doyenne: Megha Poddar

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Megha Poddar is the founder of White Light Foods. She has made a name for herself after leaving her Siyaram Group family business to strike out on her own.

What is your wellness philosophy?

My philosophy has been to have a holistic approach towards oneself, to treat the mind, body and spirit as a whole and look at well-being from a perspective of being multidimensional.

To be well is ultimately to be whole. Wellbeing-based practices and techniques, such as meditation, prayer, or spiritual reading for the Spirit, exercise and proper nutrition for the Body, and intellectual study for the Mind, when taken together and practiced as part of a comprehensive well-being approach will fundamentally cultivate a state of wholeness.

Your success mantra?

I believe in keeping it simple always. My success mantra is also an extension to the same school of thought – Have great aim, continuously acquire knowledge, work hard, persevere and succeed. There is no shortcut, consistency in efforts is key as per me.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

‘That you are never too late to do the right thing.’ Take your time to disaster manage and get a control of the situation, but eventually whatever the stage may be, do the right thing as it should have been done earlier, it will always reap good benefits and results.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Connect to your core, we have an immense gift within us – and that is to balance everything around us, which, if nurtured, can lead us to excellence with very little effort. Hormonally, women can either lead to brilliance if we channelise our energies well, or then disaster. Choose your path wisely, because we make a huge impact anyway in all the lives connected to us.

Communication, empathy, agility, resilience, multitasking – all naturally ingrained qualities in us – which are the real assets that make us successful professionally and personally.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

It has to be the connections I have formed with various people I have met along the way and keep meeting every day. People from different walks of life, different strata, different cultures. After all, what is there to us if not coexistence and interdependence. The lives that I have been able to positively impact through my work in whatever small or big way – be it colleagues, employees or consumers and the appreciation received from them – in words, gestures, actions and sometimes unsaid, makes me feel most proud of the work I do. And most importantly, to get completely widened perspectives of thought process and experiences via my interactions with people, which help me grow so much more, so much faster and better.
