Celebrating the Doyenne: Dr. Renita Rajan

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Dr Renita Rajan was the first dermatologist to introduce the cutting edge Picosecond laser technology in India at RENDER Clinic. She is the Key Opinion Leader for India for the Picoway technology and sits on the panel of doctors that develop the treatment guidelines for skin of colour.

What is your wellness philosophy?

Living in sync with the circadian rhythm.

So many physical and mental health conditions are now being pinned to the lack of a good sleep hygiene. A regular sleep routine is a great way to power up both your physical and mental health, and maximise productivity.

If Nature really wanted us to stay up all night, it would have left the Sun on!

Your success mantra?

My success mantras look like a string of Disney slogans thanks to motherhood! Here are

3 that I commonly use and say.

Keep Swimming from Dory in Nemo!

Do the next right thing from Anna in Frozen.

And of course, from Mufasa in The Lion King : Believe in yourself, and eventually everyone will believe in you!

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

It always helps to document a mistake, to make sure that the learning is never forgotten. Or in other words, the bigger mistake is to miss out on the learning from the original mistake.

Always document the mistake (in a secret diary, or systematically in software, wherever) and revisit this often. The learning from this can be very impactful.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

It’s all about learning and applying that learning. Everything looks way less daunting, and way more doable, if we apply the learning mindset to it and say : Whatever the outcome, that’s a useful thing that I learned/am learning/ will learn from this!

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

Over the years, getting to a learning mindset has been the most rewarding growth in my work and career. While learning has literally powered our growth (I work in clinical and cosmeceutical dermatology), it has also freed me up to push the limits, both in academic and administrative domains.
