The New World of Beauty Products Is Cruelty-Free

In the not too distant past, if you wanted to develop beauty products, chances are you would be testing it on animals before it even so much as touched a human being. Turns out that people didn’t really like this that much.

At the start of the century, companies started to veer away from animal testing. Only a little at the start, but in 2013 the European Union completely banned all products which had been tested on animals. This triggered the rest of the world to act.

Here in India, the change also happened in 2013. Initially, no company could test their products on animals within the country. From 2014, it was illegal to sell products developed outside of India within the country if it had been tested on animals. This is, in part, down to the huge work that an organization called People for Animals was putting in. Makeup brands that don’t test on animals are the norm for India now.

In India, we have plenty of companies who have demonstrated to PETA India that their supply chain is cruelty-free. This includes Amoha, Body Essence, and Dermalogica India (this is just a small smattering of hundreds of different companies).

Of course, that is just related to the testing of animals. Most people still believe that there is cruelty elsewhere in the supply chain. What you must remember is that many products on the market use animal products in their manufacture. Many people see the whole farming industry as cruelty towards animals.

This has resulted in many cruelty-free brands going completely vegan with the production of their products. It is not as many as one would hope at the moment, but the number is rising sharply, and it probably won’t be long until vegan products form the majority of beauty products manufactured in India.

The new world of beauty products is cruelty-free. It must be. It is illegal for it to involve animal testing of any sort. In terms of products being vegan, companies are using this as a major selling point. Even if you do eat meats and the like, it is unlikely that you want to be smearing animal products all over your body. It can’t be healthy, right? Not to mention the fact that there is an animal out there that have died just so that you can look a bit better. Even if you do eat meat, and that is completely fine, we can’t imagine that this sits well with you. Looking beautiful for just a night cost a life?

As the years go on, expect more and more products to push that they are cruelty-free. Right there in the open. Animal testing statistics from PETA and other animal protection agencies have shown that this is exactly what people want when it comes to their products, and that means these companies are going to give it to them. You will get everything from cruelty-free drugstore makeup to cruelty-free high-end makeup.
