Quick Monsoon Hair Care Tips

Haircare tips that let you dance in the rain without the damage.

The monsoon season is the worst for potential hair damage – between hair fall, breakage, frizz and dandruff, it is crucial to take care of your tresses this season. While the most obvious step would be to stay dry, but the weather being unpredictable and rain dances undoubtedly fun, staying dry can’t be the only solution.

  1. Use a different shampoo in the rainy season. Your hair has different needs, that includes conditioning to combat the frizz and medicated antibacterial qualities that prevents dandruff, which is caused by fungal infections. Always start with a small bottle: if it doesn’t work for you, switch it.
  2. Use a wide toothed comb. It makes it much easier to detangle humidity-frizzed hair compared to a brush, which will definitely cause breakages.
  3. Stick to lose braids and buns. They strengthen hair follicles and will protect your hair from tangles, breakages, and the expected frizz afterwards. Too tight, and it will be a pain to unravel when wet. Too lose and hair will fall out and get damaged anyway.
  4. Do not comb your hair when wet, as it is at its most delicate stage. Cuticles get exposed when damp, making it very prone to breakage.

  1. Avoid tying wet hair, as it will just cause more tangle induced breakage and make it impossible to untie later on. Wait for them to dry.
  2. Rainwater is acidic with a pH of about 5.6, which is very bad for your hair. So, when your hair does get wet, don’t keep rainwater in, wash your hair as soon as possible.
  3. To get rid of dandruff, apply a paste of neem and turmeric to your scalp. Both Neem and turmeric possess antimicrobial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. They are also rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, which make your hair and scalp healthy.
  4. When it is time for that mandatory once-in-a-season rain dance, take precautionary steps. Oiling your hair before getting them wet keeps them protected from the elements and makes sure it is not stripped of moisture.
  5. People with coloured hair should dampen their hair and apply conditioner before going out in the rain. This prevents the colour from fading too much. Be sure to rinse with cold water afterwards.
  6. There is no better season for a hair spa. Regular spa treatments nourish your hair and roots.
