Is Coffee the Hidden Secret to Your Skincare Dreams?

We all know that coffee is the ultimate energizer, but not just for your body, for your skin too. As we celebrate International Coffee Day today, we’ve brewed for you why exactly coffee is such an amazing ingredient you can to your skincare routine.

Long has been the discussion of whether coffee’s good or bad for your body, but the one fact that remains is it is indeed good for you, that is, on the outside.

Packed with dozens of antioxidants, nutrients, helpful acids, and so much more still being discovered, coffee is easily one of the most efficient and cost-free way to gaining that skin of your dreams!

“Coffee naturally delivers almost a dozen antioxidants that protect cells from the damage of free radicals and improve skin health. It helps to fight premature aging by devouring the free radicals that damage the lipids resulting in plump and wrinkle-free skin. It is anti-inflammatory and repairs any damage that is caused by acne. When applied as a mask, coffee helps to improve the blood flow and makes the skin radiant and bright.” says Pooja Nagdev, Founder, INATUR.

AN EXCELLENT EXFOLIANT

Ground Coffee does not dissolve in water, thus making it an excellent natural exfoliant for dead skin cells. One can make a coffee scrub at home with this simple formula:

  1. 1 teaspoon of fresh coffee grounds finely powdered
  2. ½ teaspoon of powdered brown sugar
  3. Pinch of cinnamon
  4. 2-3 teaspoon – low fat milk (oily skin) and milk cream (dry skin)

Scrub the mixture into the skin once every few days after washing the body. Let the scrub sit on the skin for a few minutes, then rinse it off. This will also help in removing tan from skin.

SOOTHES A PUFFY FACE

Oversleeping cause a puffy face? Just grind some coffee beans and make yourself a coffee paste to apply on the face. Thirty minutes up and the difference will be visible. That’s because coffee dehydrates and constricts blood vessels and so helps drain water from the body’s system! This is also why you could use coffee as an alternative for healing dark undereyes.

HELPS HEAL HYPERPIGMENTATION

Apart from being rich in antioxidants, coffee grounds contain anti-inflammatory effects – thanks to fhs chlorogenic acid (CGA) as well as melanoidins present. CGA is also linked to reducing hyperpigmentation that may have a connection with inflammation.

THE PERFECT SPA SCRUB

Ever wondered why coffee spa treatments are so talked about? Used in body scrubs and wraps, coffee stimulates blood flow, improves circulation, tones and tightens, and works to dispose off the body of accumulated toxins in the layers of the skin. It’s quite literally shedding your old skin for a smoother, healthier one!

A RISING ANTI-AGEING ELEMENT

Over the years, coffee has been shown to reduce visible signs of aging like sun spots, redness, and fine lines. Similarly, coffee is also linked to a reduction in the effects of photo-aging. Think coffee might be the new-age solution to all the beauty woes causes by screens.

While the many uses of coffee are still being explored, these are just some of the many ways in which coffee has been a gamechanger when it comes to beauty. Let’s appreciate coffee in not just our mugs but our bottles of beauty and care as well.
