How to bring a Spa to your Home?

For those who need to rejuvenate and are craving for a spa session during lockdown, Dr. Jitendra Varshney, Spa & Wellness Director, Six Senses Spa tells you that you don’t have to leave the house to get a quality spa experience. Here is how you can create a spa at your home which can be a great way to reconnect with each other.

An experience in Spa gives a complete sensory journey. So, when setting up a spa at home, remember to incorporate elements that are pleasing to your all five senses of sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing. Create a spa environment with aromatic candles, peaceful music, soothing light, a cozy robe, and a glass of herbal infusion.

Aroma, Aroma and Aroma

Can you imagine a spa without aroma!! Many spa uses their own signature blends of essential oils. These feature to achieve a specific effect like energizing, calming, relaxing, etc.

While creating experience at home apply some essential oils to an aroma burner or add to some water and spray at in the corners of the room. If you are looking for a soothing or calming aroma, my favorites are Lavender or Lemongrass. If you don’t have a diffuser at home, lighting aroma candles can give the same effect on mind and body.

Music Therapy

When you enter a spa, you typically hear a relaxing background music. Music is known for its ability to calm down the mind and relax the body.

You can choose from your favorite playlist or any music with sounds from nature like water flow, chirping, sound of wind etc. This will help you to reconnect with nature and creates positivity in the mind as well. Some raga based Indian classical music and Mantra chanting can also give you variety of choices.

The Taste Buds

It’s best to begin unwinding with an herbal infusion. You can formulate your own drink warm or cold based on choice.
Warm Ginger tea with honey not only boosts immunity it helps to improve the detoxification process. Water infused with Cucumber, Lemon & Mint is cooling and hydrating in nature.

Steam out toxins

Benefits of steaming is no more any secret. Steam helps to get brighter, healthier skin.

To create your own soothing facial steam, you may require- some herbs (dried or fresh), Flower petals (dried or fresh), and essential oils.

Method- Pour 4 cups of water to a medium to large size bowl. Add your favorite combination of herbs, flowers (1 tsp), essential oils (3-4 drops), or other ingredients to the bowl. Steam your face for 10 minutes.
Or simply soak two small towels in hot water, drape each on either side of your face and hold for just five minutes.

After steaming applying natural mask made up of Aloe vera & cucumber will enhance the glow and reduce blemishes.

Get Hands On

Irish Oat Hand Mask
The backs of our hands can give away our age. Raw oats are known to nourish dry skin, as well as lighten and brighten any pigmentation.

  • 2 tbsp Ground Raw Oats
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 – 2 tbsp Natural Yoghurt

Begin by grinding the oats before adding the honey and yoghurt. Once applied, try wrapping your hands in a warm, moist towel and leave the ingredients to soften and smooth, before removing with warm water. You can follow this by applying a thick, nourishing moisturizer at bedtime and covering your hands with cotton gloves to reveal a new set of hands in the morning.

Foot Rituals

Soothing Foot Scrub
If you’re home with loved ones, why not perform an indulgent foot bathing ritual for each other? Let’s start with a soothing foot scrub for tired, aching feet …

  • • 1 cup Epsom Salts
  • • ½ cup Sweet Almond Oil
  • • 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • • 10 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
  • • 1 – 2 tbsp Dried Lavender Flowers

Mix all ingredients together, being careful with essential oils when offering a foot treatment to children or pregnant ladies. Give the feet a good scrub allowing the magnesium in the Epsom salts to relieve any tension, whilst the lavender and peppermint go to work relaxing your loved one and deodorizing the feet. Rinse off with warm water.

Exfoliating dead skin

Soothing body Scrub
A touch of hydration, softening and a relieve of any skin irritation will create a glowing effect in your skin after the application, bringing your body to a calm stage.

  • • ½ cup of aloe vera
  • • 1 teaspoon of sandalwood powder

Application- Apply thoroughly to the body in upward circular movements, applying firm pressure to remove dead cells.

Self-massage for de-stressing or relaxing muscles

Self-application of any oil infused with herbs or blended with essential oil can give the same benefits of receiving massage in spa. You can learn some pressure points techniques using thumb pressure with long strokes and circulatory movements at joints. This will not only relax muscles it improves the circulation and joint flexibilities.

Elevate bath time

All good at-home spa sessions should involve a long, hot soak whether you choose to read your favorite book or simply lay still and submerged for a while.
Mixing Epsom or Himalayan salt rich in magnesium, are ideal for treating sore muscles and setting you up for a great night’s sleep, while a fragrant bubble bath offers both pampering appeal and calming benefits
