How to Tell Apart your Cappuccino from your Latte

Is it “I love you a latte” or a “cup—o-ccino” for you? Either way, can you tell the difference?

Both are shot with espresso, built with hot milk, and finessed with foam. One’s just like a sibling to the other. Which one is it?

Easy, we got you.

Creamy and delicious, both cappuccino and latte originate from Italy. Both are started off with rich shots of espresso, the second layer of steamed milk, and an upper layer of foamy goodness. Top it off with buttery croissants, sandwiches, cookies, or cakes!

The difference, like plenty of things, lies in the details. It’s the amount of these three ingredients used in each which draws the line for your favourite drink.

Key reminder: the espresso shots remain the same for both.

A Latte

In a good ol’ latte, the hot milk and the foam are usually in larger quantities than the cappuccino. The upper layer, the much-beloved foam, is thin. Lattes are where you’ll find the oh-so-aesthetic art on the foam. So if you’re looking for some warm Insta inspiration, the order in a latte.

For your daily cappuccino, the milk, as well as foam, is usually less in quantity than your latte. The real difference comes with the foam that is denser, yet airy, in this drink. If you’re keen for a stronger taste, the cap’ right here is the one.

A Cappuccino

Lattes are usually served in larger cups or mugs, while cappuccinos are almost always served in an average cup and a saucer, neat with a napkin.

Now that you know the minute yet valuable difference, which one are you starting off your day with?
