Get Up Close and Personal with Manta Rays at The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort

Snorkel alongside these gentle giants in the turquoise waters of Maldives

The diverse marine life in Maldives has many wonders waiting to be discovered and befriended. The country, which is made up of 99% water, is home to countless species of fish and corals, including over 4,900 manta rays—which is more than anywhere else in the world. These highly intelligent sea creatures are the largest rays in the world, with a wingspan going up to 30 feet. Unlike some of the other rays, these fish don’t have a poisonous tail stinger. Divers and snorkelers from around the world flock to Maldives during the manta ray season for a chance to swim with these gentle giants.

The Manta Ray Season at The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort

Nestled in the pristine waters of Baa Atoll, The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort presents a remarkable chance for guests to witness the awe-inspiring manta rays in the world’s largest natural feeding destination. Situated just a short distance from the resort, Hanifaru Bay, a protected site within the Maldives’ first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, beckons visitors to embark on a snorkeling adventure alongside these graceful creatures.

The manta ray season commences in May and goes on until early November, giving you a long window to plan a once-in-a-lifetime trip. “During peak season, more than 100 mantas can be seen gracefully swimming and feeding in the bay, with occasional sightings of whale sharks, particularly during full moon,” shared Kay, the resort’s resident Marine Biologist.
