Celebrating the Doyenne: Ritu Gupta

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

With an inherent understanding of design and style, and a keen eye for aesthetics, Ritu Gupta, Co-Founder & Interior Designer of the leading luxury Interior and Architectural firm Pramod Group, is the force behind the creative edge evident in their unparalleled residential projects.

What is your wellness philosophy?

An overall harmony and peace one feels within oneself, and also outside in the environment, is an important aspect of wellness for me. Much like the balanced interiors of a home have a calming effect on its owners, I believe we need the balance in everything we do. A balanced diet of healthy food, a fitness routine that is followed regularly, a good night’s sleep and positive thinking are a must for a feeling of wellbeing.

Your success mantra?

While dreaming big, we should be mindful that it’s the small things that matter and lead to big success. So, my success mantra is to take care of the tiniest details at every level so that we eliminate the chance of mistakes or hurdles that hold us back. Especially in my role as the creative head of the interiors, it is the careful attention that we pay to the nuances that make all the difference. And as the director of the firm when I handle the back-end operations, understanding each staff member’s temperament, knowing their strong and weak points, helps me get the best out of them.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

When we are heading teams, we need to give time to each member before we form opinions about their capabilities. We need to wait till we understand the real person behind and what their strengths are. This takes time, and a lot of empathy, but this is what helps a leader to take everyone along with her on the success journey.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

As women have many roles to play, but focusing on one role / goal at a time can ensure better results. This is something I learnt from the book, The One Thing. It stresses the value of simplifying one’s workload by focusing on the one most important task in any given project. Even though this is more from real estate entrepreneurs’ point of view, I feel it applies to all areas. So my advice would be to set goals for the different aspects of your life – family, work, spiritual front, and then meticulously target whatever is the top priority at that time, so that you can achieve optimum success.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

It’s a great feeling to be the Co-Founder and Creative Head of a prominent home developers’ company with such a formidable reputation in Delhi. It’s the client’s absolute satisfaction, the “wow” expression we see when we handover a home, and their total trust in us that instills a sense of pride. Also, I can say with pride that we have faced very little attrition rate at our company, making us believe that our staff also respect and love us, as they stick with us and share our vision.
