Celebrating the Doyenne: Dr. Amodita Ahuja

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Dr. Amodita Ahuja is a Consultant Obstetrician, Gynecologist, Laparoscopic surgeon, and Infertility specialist.

What is your wellness philosophy?

Wellness is a combination of different aspects of one’s life and social environment. It is way beyond just diet and exercise and freedom from disease. It is self-empowerment and pursuit of the passion of one’s life that enhances core essence. It’s the willingness to learn new ideas and to establish a positive approach to an imperfect life. As a gynaecologist, I not only treat my patients for which they came to me but I try to educate them about their body so that they are well informed and try to opt for their healthier version.

Your success mantra?

I feel my compassionate, empathetic, sensitive, and personal approach to every patient’s problem, taking time to listen and get to know them is my foremost mantra. I try to educate them so that they can make their own healthcare decisions. My patients are more like a family to me, I make them so comfortable so that they can share every petite detail and I ensure that their healthcare needs are not compromised.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

To err is human, they say. We all make mistakes at work, and hopefully, many of us resolve these mistakes by acknowledging the oversight, learning whatever lessons can be gleaned, and moving on. But what I learned from my experience is that transparency and honesty between patient and doctor and even among fellow doctors and to self is the most important.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

As a woman, I know that there is a lot on women’s plate and they need to juggle with all. Due to a whole lot of stress, they tend to neglect their health only to suffer consequences later. So my advice to all the women out there is- no matter what’s happening in your life, have a healthy lifestyle which includes healthy eating{not dieting}, exercise, yoga, meditation. In a day you deserve to have at least one hour to yourself where you can think about your physical and mental well-being. Meet your gynaecologist at least once a year even if you think you are completely healthy.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

My biggest pride as a gynaecologist is that I get to serve countless helpless women, get to understand them, cure them, educate them and save their lives. I am proud to have a family of patients who blesses me everyday.
