Make Your Every Step Count with StepSetGo

India’s first fitness app to reward users for walking, StepSetGo is an all-engaging app that’s encouraging users to walk more as part of their wellness journey, and stay motivated with prizes to be won for each step that you take! Here’s the real deal with Shivjeet Ghatge, CEO and Co-founder, StepSetGo.

StepSetGo reigns today as one of the market leaders in the fitness rewarding space. The app has collaborated with leading brands like Bajaj Avenger, Boat, Skechers, Puma, and Decathlon among others. Launched in just January 2019, they are constantly focusing on encouraging their users to stay fit.

In conversation with CEO Shivjeet Ghatge, here’s what the app’s all about…

1.) Starting off, how did the concept of StepSetGo come about?

The ideation process began when Abhay (co-founder and CTO) very casually mentioned that I (Shivjeet) should get paid for going to the gym because of the rigorous and sporadic phases I went through when it came to working out. That sparked a conversation about the patterns we noticed in friends and family in what we termed as the ‘New Year Resolution’ syndrome. The syndrome that entailed a cycle of enrolling in a gym or a fitness plan, going through a phase of unwavering determination to a steady decline in that commitment, then a total disengagement from that routine, which finally then looped around to the same resolution but in the next year.

We wanted to create something that wouldn’t just encourage people to get healthy but incentivise them to make a long-term commitment to their fitness journey. StepSetGo addresses those two problems and tries to give people enough motivation through simplicity, social interactions and the app’s key hook- rewards to maintain continuity in their fitness journey.

2.) Walk us through the main drive behind the app. How does it encapsulate #StepEarnRedeem?

The main drive for the app was to get people to commit to their fitness journey with a simple thought of rewarding them for every step they take.

How it works is simple; the app tracks everything from your steps, calories lost to the kilometres walked. It then converts those steps into SSG coins which is the currency used to redeem offers from the in-app marketplace called the ‘Bazaar’. Users can earn 1 SSG coin for every thousand steps they take. Earning these coins is fairly simple but is purely dependent on the user’s diligence towards getting those steps in daily. Once enough coins are accumulated, the user can reward his/her progress with exclusive offers and free products like electronic gadgets, apparel, online courses, and wellness products and much more from the Bazaar. We’ve further tried to up the motivation by introducing a healthy dose of friendly competition through the ‘Arena’ section in the app, where users can compete with family and friends to reach specific goals and which ultimately encourages the building of healthier communities.

There is no cap on the amount of coins a user can accumulate; limitations are only determined by each individual. Therefore the longer your commitment towards fitness is, the more rewards you can earn with StepSetGo.

3.) What would you say is the USP of StepSetGo?

Our primary USP, which has pulled in a lot of people, is the rewards aspect of the app. That paired with gamification features and universal usability has significantly built the app’s user engagement. These factors combined, have boosted StepSetGo’s appeal to a diverse audience, ranging from students, housewives, corporate honchos to even policemen.

4.) Now that fitness has gone more virtual than ever before and dozens of fitness apps have emerged, how does StepSetgo aim to distinguish itself?

The concept in itself is what sets us apart and what in turn has driven the high organic growth. By incentivizing our user’s steps, coupled with the gamification of the experience and the social interactions has led to our exponential growth. Our stats prove that the rewards hook has worked well, especially considering we haven’t done any sort of marketing. We’re 18 months in and we’ve already received 6 million registered users on the application and have one of the highest app engagement times in the market averaging at up to 14 minutes per user.

5.) What can we expect from the app in the near future? Any new collaboration?

We aim to build a holistic fitness solution brand with more gamification, community and fitness features that go beyond just walking. The aim is to motivate the user to move a little bit more every day and to stick to a fitness routine that he/she has committed to. We want to make sure that no matter what the age or fitness level of the user is, StepSetGo will have a solution to track and reward every achievement. We will also be introducing a few added features in the Bazaar section that will be releasing soon.

6.) Lastly, any piece of advice for those using StepSetGo for the first time?

Start small and take it easy, as soon as you start accumulating coins on the app, that motivation just keeps building. Inviting your family or friends is a great way to build on the social experience, to compete and play games on the app. Lastly, Stay committed not only in counting your rewards but also counting your steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
