Celebrating the Doyenne: Tanvi Agarwal

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Tanvi Agarwal is the founder of House of Ekam, a brand which aims to provide one-of-a-kind home products that unify homes. Each product is thoughtfully curated with artisans from different regions in India having premium craftsmanship along with affordable pricing.

What is your wellness philosophy?

I love a good workout and try to work out 3-4 times a week. Along with regular exercise, I like to switch off from work after 7pm and don’t work on most weekends. Spending time with my son is my biggest stress buster.

Your success mantra?

There’s no mantra as such, but I like to keep things simple. Hiring the right people, delegating work and keeping a razor sharp focus has helped me.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

So many! As an entrepreneur, the journey is more about mistakes than success in the first go. One of the earliest lessons I learnt was not to blindly follow an expert advice. Always explore different aspects of the situation even if social convention dictates something different.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

The only advice I got from my father and I would want all women to imbibe would be to be financially independent. Whether earning a small amount or lakhs, any kind of financial independence is better than no financial security.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

The most empowering moment in my life was starting my own business at the age of 26. From being a one man army to providing employment to a team of 10 and various artisan clusters associated with us, from working in an MNC to working in my small room to having 2 warehouses in Bombay now and to finally juggling being a mom of a 3year old and women entrepreneur, I have felt extremely empowered.
