Celebrating the Doyenne: Nupur Vaid

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Nupur Vaid is the co-founder of Kyoona, a premium design centric luxury to home furnishings brand.

What is your wellness philosophy?

For me, finding small moments that are just for myself is super important. Especially because the rest of the day usually ends up being extremely hectic. In these moments, dance is the activity that centres me. It’s my stress buster, my motivator and my source of joy. I also try (and sometimes fail) to write consistently in my gratitude journal because it’s really helpful to go back to the bad days and remind myself that I’ve got this. Another thing I’ve been trying is meditation with the intention to help focus my mind and add a little more peace to the daily hustle.

Your success mantra?

Investing in people and building meaningful relationships to bring people together. It's something that my parents raised me with and it’s the most invaluable piece of advice that has helped me in every stage of my life.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

The fact that they’re the biggest teachers. And they’re unavoidable, no matter how hard you try. It’s just a part of being human. I’d rather make a mistake and learn what not to do rather than never make a mistake and do only the safest thing. If you don’t fall off a bike a couple of times, you’ll never know what you need to do to move faster.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

Be yourself and stand tall. Success will follow.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

I think it would have to be building a safe space for people to collaborate and network alongside one another, especially for women and the LGBTQIA community. It’s a community I wished existed when I was starting out and it’s one I hope to keep growing and nurturing for many, many more years to come.
