Celebrating the Doyenne: Nidha Adeni

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women's Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Nidha Adeni is the founder of Cinnamon Soul, a skincare brand with products that inspire and enable people to live a more conscious and mindful life, without trading off on those little self-indulgent moments in our everyday self-care rituals.

What is your wellness philosophy?

Wellness probably means something different to each one. For me, wellness is a state of mind - it's living my happiest, healthiest life. It means listening to myself and being aware of what my body needs, or my mind for that matter. I think it's very important to move away from the concept of having it perfect, to fully being in-tuned with yourself. I don’t deprive myself of food that I desire, but have a better understanding of what kinds of food should be on my primary diet, and what is just fun to have; the same goes for exercise. It's very important for me to always have fun- to enjoy the food I eat, to love the place I'm in, to enjoy the activity or workout I'm doing. I feel ‘joy' is integral to wellness and happiness.

Your success mantra?

I am an eternal optimist. It's just the way my brain is wired. I’m always the glass-half-full kind of person. I look for the silver linings, the opportunities, the learnings in every situation, even if they didn't go as planned. Resilience and Perseverance are key to success.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

I think it's very important to not be afraid of making mistakes. Every mistake or success is a window to learning- what works or what didn’t work. I think it's important not to dwell on mistakes but rather look at them as windows to learn from- what should be done differently the next time to succeed, what can be improved. It's important to never stop questioning.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

If you have an idea that you truly believe in, if you’ve weighed out the business aspects of it, and it still feels viable. If it is motivating you to do better, just do it. Don’t get caught up in the realm of perfectionism; of waiting for every little thing to be perfect. Sometimes starting is the most difficult thing, after that, your motivation, your perseverance will see you through it, so take that first step, and begin.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

That we continue to impact and make a difference in people's lives. That we’re slowly changing the way people and families consume and perceive naturally led Skincare and Bodycare products. That we are able to show people that naturally derived products can still give you all the sensory indulgences that you are accustomed to from mainstream products. When people come up to me at shows or send us an email telling us that they’ve had skin sensitives and have always used medicated products their whole life, but now can enjoy the pleasures of sweet-smelling products without the fear of it enraging their skin, that to me makes it all worthwhile. When you see people have that Aha moment, that "oh my, it is natural, it's plant-derived, but I don’t feel like I'm giving up on any experience, and my skin feels so good." That, there, is our biggest moment of pride, and the fact that we do it with an entirely women-led organization, that is everything.
