Celebrating the Doyenne: Himani Sharma & Mahima Seth

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women's Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Himani Sharma & Mahima Seth are the Co-Founders of Media Binding Relations.

What is your wellness philosophy?

Himani: I believe that wellness comes from a positive mindset and healthy attitude towards life in totality. I always try to look towards the brighter side of life no matter how demanding the situation is. When the pandemic took the world by storm, every business was severely affected, people lost their jobs and the amalgamation of paranoia, lockdown restrictions, and fear of uncertainty made the situation even worse. But then we found a silver lining and started to create opportunities by empowering our clients, especially startups who were struggling to find a reliable platform for sustainable growth.

Mahima: For me, wellness is getting out of me-centered mentality that is pervasive in our work culture. From the very beginning, our approach has largely focused on putting the clients’ needs first in order to build a relationship of trust with them. Starting as young entrepreneurs ourselves, we understand the kind of hardships that small business owners have to face. Keeping that aspect into consideration, we have supported our clients in the best way possible and I think that has really helped to accelerate our personal and professional growth.

Your success mantra?

Himani: My success mantra is- lead through learning. Sometimes your strategies can work wonders and sometimes they may not create the kind of impact that we wish for. In any scenario, learning must not stop. In a dynamic world, staying ahead of your competitors requires a wholesome understanding of the market and the parameters influencing it. So, always stay hungry for learning, reevaluate your strategies, keep up with the trends, and try to take feedback from clients from time-to-time.

Mahima: The path of entrepreneurship is filled with utmost uncertainties but a successful entrepreneur is the one with the larger vision. While managing day-to-day hurdles and overwhelming challenges, one must not lose sight of the bigger picture that could move your business in the right direction. Adapting to changes, setbacks and failures as versatility is the survivor code for entrepreneurs. Also, always be open to re-invent and innovate.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

Himani: Taking on the entrepreneurship role was very challenging for us. Although we had the required skill sets and good media relations, we were skeptical about embarking upon the startup journey and we were constantly second-guessing our next move. Sometimes, it can be hard to convince your inner self because you start doubting yourself, which can shake up your confidence levels. I think that not believing enough in my vision was a mistake as things turn out to be great at the end if you have zeal, determination and hunger for success.

Mahima: Never listen to people who try to bring your morale down. You can find a lot of people who can shake up your confidence and demotivate you for taking the unconventional career path. But, listening to other people’s opinions is the biggest mistake we made in the beginning. However, now we have realized that every individual builds their own path and success and failure are a part of the journey.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Himani: Female-owned businesses are still in the minority and finding your own voice and remaining true to yourself can become challenging at times. So, my piece of advice for all the women entrepreneurs out there who are working hard to find a space into the male-dominant business world is to never conform to society’s conventional standard of how a woman entrepreneur should conduct her business. Recognize your power to pave the way for the next generation of women leaders.

Mahima: Just be your authentic self and set your own standards. Take inspiration from others who have made great strides but try to focus on your strengths. And sometimes people do not take female entrepreneurs seriously but only you have the power to change that. Be proud of your accomplishments and never be ashamed of yourself for being too ambitious.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

Himani: Breaking stereotypical boundaries that society has set for women and making a name in the industry for ourselves has been our biggest pride.

Mahima: Working for a diverse array of clients that come from different domains in such a short tenure is what we take pride in. We want to expand our horizons and reach new heights, setting examples for anyone afraid of believing in themselves for taking the next step.
