Celebrating the Doyenne: Dr. Paula Goel

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Dr. Paula Goel is a Consultant Pediatrician, Adolescent Physician and Founder of Fayth Clinic.

What is your wellness philosophy?

Wellness is a state of being and includes integration of physical, mental, and emotional health. An individual can achieve 100% of their full potential when there is integration at all these 3 levels. Physical health = mental + emotional wellbeing.

Your success mantra?

Be truthful to yourself and success will follow.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

Taking decisions at the right time and implementing them is very important. Sometimes decisions are taken but not implemented. And at times, we don’t take decisions and procrastinate. Looking back, this has been one of the most important lessons. Moving forward is the way ahead, and that can only be achieved by taking the decisions. There is no right time. You just have to do it.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Be kind to yourself. As women, we are always very critical and harsh on ourselves. Most women want to be the perfect daughter, wife, mother, daughter-in-law, career woman and so on. You want to be the perfect woman. But there is no perfect woman – it’s a myth. Trying to achieve that impossible perfection will lead to a large amount of stress, irritation, suppressed and repressed anger & ill-health. In short, it will make you self-deprecating with lack of self-love leading to illness. So, if you don’t love yourself, who will love and respect you? What is more important is that you love and respect yourself and work to the best of your ability and capability, keeping in mind that you are doing your best at that point of time. Not only will this bring you happiness and joy because you are no longer critical of yourself and working from a higher self. You will then be so natural in your flow that people will respect you for who you are as a person and that is perfection at any level.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

Life has been a beautiful journey with lots of lessons. What is important that I have been able to help, guide people and at the same time receive guidance and help? This itself is a very humbling experience and biggest pride.
