“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women's Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.
Dr Noopur Jain, MD Dermatology, is the founder and consultant dermatologist at Skinzest, a boutique centre for dermatology, aesthetics and cosmetic surgeries in Gurgaon.
What is your wellness philosophy?
Being a dermatologist, I know what being healthy from the outside looks like. But very few of us know that to be a healthy being we need our mind and body to be in sync. Just having a healthy body with an unhappy mind would be of no good. We need to take care of ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually. Where most people go wrong is always planning to start a healthy lifestyle, but don’t end up taking action for it. Start looking after yourself mentally, physically and spiritually before you face any health problems. Take proactive and preventive steps to maintain a fit body and healthy mind and not wait for health problems to arise and then take care.
Your success mantra?
My success mantra is that I’ve always followed my goals and passion with complete dedication, persistence, patience and relentless optimism. Sometimes we fall back, but what is important is to stand back up. I believe one needs to have a clear cut vision of what success means to them. Do not follow others' paths blindly, but carve your own path. Everyone’s journey is unique, and the challenges faced are also different. Believe in yourself and your dreams. To follow your passion and do something you have always wanted to.
A lesson you learned from making a mistake?
I used to get affected by other's opinions and advice. The negativity caused by others has stopped me many times from realizing my full potential and doing my best. It impacted my work and family life also to a large extent. But now, having realized the importance of being true to myself, my beliefs and trusting myself, I don’t let anyone’s opinions affect me anymore. I listen to others' advice, but do what I feel is right. No one else knows you and your business the way you do. Trust yourself and your instincts.
Any piece of advice for all the women out there?
Through the past years, women are always taught to surrender their lives for their families. Their dreams and passions have always been of less importance, and why? Women are more than capable of successfully managing work and family lives. We don’t have to choose one over the other. Being financially independent in today’s world is extremely important. We must teach the next generation the importance of financial independence from the beginning. Choosing between working and looking after your families should not be an option. Your business is also your baby. Treat it like one and you will be proud of what you have created. On the other hand, getting your family to cooperate with you working is only a win-win.
What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?
Professionally, the biggest pride I hold is to watch my brand, Skinzest, grow and to help my patients feel more confident about themselves and lead better lives. On the personal front, watching my 2 kids grow into caring, empathetic and honest human beings despite having my focus on both work and looking after my family. Whoever says a working woman cannot manage a family is not true!!
