Celebrating the Doyenne: Dr. Archana Batra

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Dr. Archana Batra is a Nutritionist, Physiotherapist, and Certified diabetes educator. She has over 12 years of experience in nutrition and diet counseling and practices at Dietitian Archana Batra’s Diet Clinic.

What is your wellness philosophy?

I believe we should just think of wellness as being physically fit. Mental wellbeing also comes under wellness. Emotional health is equally important. However, most of people equate wellness with being physically fit. One should feel good and healthy from the inside and should be free from diseases to be considered as fit and healthy. I focus on the complete wellbeing of my patients.

Your success mantra?

I believe in prescribing diets as per the taste and preferences of my patients. They make sure that they love the diet that I am sending them. Keeping them happy and still losing weight gives me satisfaction. And I believe that keeping clients happiness on priority while crafting their diets is my success mantra. So, basically knowing the priorities and working towards it – finding different ways to include the foods that my clients love without compromising on nutrition is what hails my success mantra.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

Earlier I used to give the plans in fashion like keto diets or other diets (on demand of patients). But slowly and gradually with experience I realized that there is no point in doing the extreme diets as these aren’t realistic. Now even if patients come and ask specifically for such extreme diets, I try and convince them to do something that is realistic and sustainable. I make sure that their diets have their favourite foods incorporated in it so that they don’t crave for it and get to understand the best way to include these items. I do not give any mono plans or even keto plans (even if patients ask for it).

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Many women visit us for cosmetic reasons related to weight because people are more concerned about the weight than the health these days. No doubt health is related to weight too but solely focusing on weight due to cosmetic reasons isn’t right. One should focus on complete wellbeing rather than simply weight

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

I design the diet based upon individual preferences considering their likings and such. It takes lot of time and patience while planning such diets and my patients love the diets that I design.
