“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women's Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.
Alphina is the Head of Food and Beverage at Vana, a wellness retreat in Dehradun.
What is your wellness philosophy?
My wellness philosophy is to live a ’Balanced life’ no matter the odds. Be it physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing, finding your balance in life is very important. Stability of mind, body and soul is the foundation stone that helps you prepare, plan and then enjoy life. It is important to be mindful of what you consume, starting from information that is available to emotions that you ingest or food that we tend to overindulge in at times. I go by the practice of Ayurveda, that everything should be consumed in moderation.
Your success mantra?
When it comes to my success mantra, I would like to lead a balanced life. Out of the multiple engagements, responsibilities that you manage, it is also important to be mindful and find a little ‘Me Time’ for decluttering your thoughts. It always helps you start afresh no matter how pressured you may feel at times. It’s simple. It’s as easy as enjoying the nature around you. All you have to do is just take deep breaths, reflect, it’s always worked for me.
A lesson you learned from making a mistake?
Lessons learnt through mistakes are some of the most invaluable lessons we can possibly garner in life. I have learnt a lot in my life when it comes to overcoming my fear of uncertainties and variables.
Any piece of advice for all the women out there?
Even before you start caring for your family or friends, it is important to love and respect yourself first. Be mindful about self-care and self-respect, rest will fall in place thereon. As we learn in the teachings of Ayurveda, your actions are reflective of your inner self.
What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?
To be respected at work by your colleagues, team members who go up and beyond to support you at all times, often fills me with a sense of pride. Call it success or pride that I have achieved over my years at Vana.
