Started at the young age of 22, entrepreneur Sargam Dhawan Bhayana is today synonymous with all things beauty – be it haircare, skincare, or bodycare. Providing a major platform for premium beauty products under Tressmart and Glow by Tressmart, Sargam is dynamic, determined, and down-to-the detailed for every part of her passions.

In conversation with GlobalSpa, here’s the entrepreneur unfurling facts on her success, the Indian beauty industry, and what beauty truly means to her.

1.) Starting with your journey, what inspired you to create a platform like Tressmart?

This lockdown period left a lot of companies a bit restricted. I refused to succumb to the set back and started researching about the industry and what I could do. With online retail taking the forefront and me being a consumer myself, I would often find the websites too cluttered with so many options, which further led to me realising the fact there was no portal dedicated solely to premium to luxury beauty and hair products. Furthermore, there was no platform in India that catered solely to hair and solely to skincare and beauty. It was with this thought I launched Tressmart.com, India’s first online shopping destination for premium to luxury haircare products and appliances.

2.) What are the trends or changes you have observed in the Indian luxury beauty industry over the years?

The Indian beauty industry has been growing exponentially. Over the years, there has been a paradigm shift towards Ayurveda, wellness, homegrown brands, organic, vegan, and clean beauty along with sustainability.

Consumers are becoming more and more conscious about the products they use and the ingredients they are applying onto their face as well as the impact on the environment. Being an owner of a vegan beauty brand myself (Paul Penders), I understand and resonate with this shift as there needs to be an awareness on responsibility and understanding the cost of beauty. Additionally, ever since the lockdown, there is a stronger emphasis on #vocalforlocal where homegrown beauty brands are getting a platform to highlight their brand and offerings. That still however doesn’t take away from the strong presence of international brands that continue to make their way to India.

3.) A new platform, Glow by Tressmart, is now almost 7 months old, what can we expect to see in the coming future?

We launched Glow by Tressmart during the lockdown, with the aim to introduce an online retail platform that offers premium to luxury beauty and wellness products and tools. We launched with only 13 brands on board and now stand with a selection of 60+ brands. During this span we unveiled Celebrity Fridge on Glow which is not available anywhere else and also launched USA based beauty brand MakeUp Eraser which is exclusively available to Glow. Furthermore, we recently associated with Diva Dhawan as a friend to Glow by Tressmart, extending our hand towards progress.

We are in talks with more brands to enter India with us and can’t wait to introduce more fun and unique products.

4.) What is the process/ criterion of selecting the products which are brought in here to cater to the Indian consumers?

Both Tressmart and Glow by Tressmart retail brands whose offerings are within a premium range and upwards. Furthermore, we like offering unique brands as well such as stylPro, which is a one-of-a-kind makeup brush cleaner, DAFNI – which is the world’s first hair straightening brush, Celebrity Fridge -which again is a new and trending beauty appliance that helps extend the shelf life of your products, Zero Gravity is the most powerful home use anti-wrinkle device. Then we launched MakeUp Eraser which is recognised as the world’s no.1 sustainable makeup remover. So, it’s safe to say that we are on the hunt for the next beauty innovation that we can launch on Glow and Tressmart and bring to our Indian consumer base.

5.) On a personal note, what does ‘beauty’ mean to you?

Beauty to me has more to do with the person than it is to do with the external appearance of someone. I believe true beauty cannot be achieved if there is harm being done at the cost of it. The best accessory any person can wear at the end of the day is a smile.

6.) What are your plans for the future? What should the Indian consumers keep an eye on?

The future for me is to bring new and unique offerings to India. Glow by Tressmart and Tressmart are 2 platforms that are always looking to bring something new and exciting for its customers. As for the immediate future, to all the Indian consumers out there, the DAFNI muse is FINALLY making its way to India in January 2021 and we could not be more excited.
