WELLFEST Day 2: Holistic Wellbeing, Boosting Immunity, and More

From holistic approach towards fitness, the importance of mental wellbeing and focusing on immunity, to taking care of our skin and dressing up to be our confident self, with some of India’s most reputed speakers, Day 2 of SYNTH GlobalSpa WELLFEST was another successful day for the week’s events.

After a successful day one of SYNTH GlobalSpa WELLFEST, we were all ready for day two to share wealth of knowledge from a panel of experts in the wellness industry with our viewers. SYNTH GlobalSpa WELLFEST is a unique festival celebrating the amalgamation of every aspect of wellness with sessions, spread over a week, on the current scenarios accompanied by insights from the leading wellness experts.

There’s no denying that the pandemic has affected our lifestyle and has made us adapt to changes which we will carry further in our lives. That is exactly what our first session, ‘Food, Lifestyle, Immunity & Weight Loss in the time of COVID-19’ was all about. The session had Parineeta Sethi (Editor-in-Chief, GlobalSpa Magazine) in conversation with Munmun Ganeriwal, a celebrity Nutritionist, Fitness Consultant, and the founder of Yuktahaar. A lot of perspective has definitely changed in the times of COVID, says Munmun, people have taken wellness in priority beyond their shape and size. Talking about building immunity, she explains “The gut microbiome has recently emerged as the most important frontier when it comes to not only increasing immunity but also your weight, behaviour patterns, etc. So when it comes to immunity, I always tell my clients to look after your gut.” The session further discussed misconceptions people have about food, on following the circadian rhythm, sticking to your sleep pattern, and finally concluded with Munmun’s personal wellness mantra.

When it comes to Wellness, we obviously have to discuss Mental Wellbeing. Our second session ‘Mental Wellbeing- The Key to a Healthy Life’ was all about a healthy mind. The session was moderated by Anoopama Mukerjee Lohana, a Sound Energy Alchemist and Meditation Breathflow Mentor, and the speakers were- Dr. Manoj Kumar, Clinical Director, MHAT India, along with Sheeba Akashdeep, a well known Actor and a Yoga Exponent. “In this interconnected world, nobody has been able to escape the effects of the pandemic” says Dr. Manoj, “It is no wonder that we have been forced to reflect up on our mental health. What is common to all mental health issues is that it starts affecting our body, then it affects our emotions, and cumulatively starts affecting our functions. The problem is not in recognizing but in accepting these mental problems.” When talking about the various benefits of Yoga, Sheeba says that initially her yoga journey felt like it was more about the physical aspect, “I realized that Yoga is a union and it is more about cognitive fitness rather than physical fitness. I recognize that most of their problems manifest in their gut. A lot of mental health issues manifest in our gut. Yoga is not about surya namaskar or standing upside down, but one has to treat with upwards, if your mind is in union then everything will fall into place.” Anoopama explained that the health of any matter is maintained by its vibrancy and its capacity to radiate its full potential, “Everything begins with keeping yourself at the high vibrancy of energy. It is all about maintaining the frequency of your body. And it affects your gut, your chakra.” The session concluded that the key is in synchronization and balance.

The third session of the day ‘Holistic Wellbeing- Fit For Life’ was about having a holistic approach towards fitness. The session was moderated by Shayamal Vallabhjee, a High-Performance Coach, Sports Scientist, Psychologist and an Author, and the speakers were- Eefa Shrof, a Yoga Expert, Fitness Chef, Sports Nutritionist & Lifestyle Wellness Consultant, Deanne Panday, an Author, Fitness Expert and Health Coach, and Wanitha Ashok, a FIT India Ambassador, Lifestyle Motivator, Media Presenter and Author. The experts agreed that wellness is about having a balance between all the aspects of wellbeing, whether physical or mental. Wanitha explains that mindfulness and going back to our roots is very important, “Our grandparents ate healthy and anything that was grown within 45 kms of their vicinity, they worked a lot and did all their household chores, slept early and woke up early. People now are just working on aesthetic and not functionality.” Talking about gut and healing, Eefa says “The fad diets have done damage to us. The one main factor most people are not looking at is healthy carbohydrates. The gut is going to be clean if you put enough fibre in it. Carbs have become the bad guys now and I don’t understand why.” Deanne delves into the holistic approach for children, “Telling the younger generation what to do doesn’t really work. I feel that Yoga should be introduced as a subject in the school. We know how Yoga makes us feel after we finish a class, we feel calm, and this is what they will feel to make this their decision as their own.” The session concluded with messages from the speakers, to everyone on, wellbeing.

The fourth session concentrated on taking care of your skin at home, called the ‘Home Skin Care Tools’. It was moderated by Shilpi Madan (Contributing Editor, GlobalSpa Magazine) in conversation with Dr. Geetika Mittal, Cosmetologist and Dermatologist. It began with knowing Dr. Geetika’s skincare regime was a little peek in the secret behind her glowing skin. She explains that skin is the largest organ of our body and we start ageing the moment we are born, “The pandemic has taught us how to take care of our skin and we have the privilege of buying products online and using them at our disposal. The two of the most talked about products one should have is the- Gua Sha & Jade Roller. They help improve the lymphatic circulation, instantly lifts your skin, and energizes your face, these are the tools you can use everyday.” She explains further how to use these tools and with what products. The session concluded with Dr. Geetika answering various skincare questions and her pearl of wisdom for all the women out there.

Winding up the second day of SYNTH GlobalSpa WELLFEST, we had a masterclass with the glamorous Eshaa Amiin Pradhan, a Celebrity Stylist and Costume Designer, on how to be the best and confident self, in a session called ‘Shapes & Styling’. The session will help you understand the various body types and how one should dress accordingly, and even what colours to wear according to your skin tone.
