One of the most popular make-up artists in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Goar Avetisyan is a 29-year-old beauty influencer with a massive reach of 12 million followers on Instagram. She owns an international beauty school with a full range of training programs for make-up, manicure, pedicure, hair, eyebrows, eyelash extensions, and facial care. She is also at the helm of an international chain of beauty salons and her own brand of cosmetics. She’s visiting India on 21st April to conduct a make-up masterclass at The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel, Delhi. Ahead of her visit, we had a candid chat with her about her journey, her vision as an artist, and of course, the top make-up trends of 2023.
GlobalSpa: When did you decide you wanted to take up beauty and makeup professionally and how has the journey been for you?
Goar Avetisyan: I have been wearing make-up since I was 12. I used to secretly take cosmetics from my mother. Make-up for me is an art—it’s my soul. Thanks to make-up, I was able to heal my spiritual wounds.
GlobalSpa: Tell us a little bit about that transition of becoming a successful beauty entrepreneur and its challenges.
Goar Avetisyan: The biggest challenge was that in Russia the profession of a makeup artist did not exist, and I was the first to teach a new profession. For the first time, I began to show bright Arabic make-up for vivid transformations. And at first, the public did not accept these. But eventually, my distinct style came into being—and many even try to copy it now.
GlobalSpa: For many women who struggle with skin issues, makeup is a means to feel more confident and comfortable in their skin. What has your experience been working with such women and how have you helped in empowering them?
Goar Avetisyan: I helped such girls to see their beauty no matter what, to make them realise that their inner world is much more important than the outer one. I tried to motivate them to take care of themselves and never despair.
GlobalSpa: Can you walk us through the top 5 makeup/beauty trends of 2023?
Goar Avetisyan: The top five make-up trends this year are graphic lines, two techniques in eyelashes (rays and fox effect), bright blush, and a moderately matte ‘blurred’ face tone.
GlobalSpa: What's your favourite beauty hack?
Goar Avetisyan: I like to use an eyebrow pencil or marker to draw hair on the eyebrows. This gives an effect of naturally thick eyebrows.
