Winters are all about moisturisation. The dryness is evident and bothersome right from the scalp to the body’s skin.
Mr. Vipin Sharma the senior product and research manager at Fixderma India Pvt Ltd with 10years+ of intensive experience in skincare formulations shares some useful tips to help you redeem the lustre and moisture of your skin even in the dead cold season.
Switch your products
Switch your skincare right from facewash to body lotion to a more hydrated variant. Use cream-based products instead of gel-based ones. Opt for alcohol-free formulations to avoid further dryness
Never skip moisturiser
Most of us who have oily or combination skin tend to skip moisturiser during summer which is not ideal even in that season. But in winter it becomes vital. Always moisturise your skin as it locks moisture and prevents dryness. And by moisturise, we mean face to toe. Do not skip your body lotion and foot cream as well
Always moisturise right after a shower
Damp skin is more absorbing so moisturise your face and body skin as soon as you step out of the shower.
Avoid long hot shower
Hot water strips the skin of moisture, hence avoid long hot showers. To keep the skin nourished, keep the water temperature to lukewarm. Also, avoid rubbing your skin with a rough towel post-shower.
Reduce the frequency of exfoliation
Exfoliation is great as it removes dead and uneven skin. But during winters, we should avoid exfoliating very often and especially using physical scrubs as they can break down the skin barrier and causes dryness and sensitivity. Instead, use hydrating exfoliating agents like lactic acid which are not only gentle but also protect the moisture of the skin.
Use humidifier
Heaters become our companions during winter to keep our environment warm and cosy. But they dry up the air by
removing natural moisture which also acts as a natural moisturising agent. This leads to dryness and dehydration. Always use humidifiers indoors while using a heater to add moisture back to the air
Include Occlusive products in your skincare routine
Include emollients and petroleum jelly-based products in your skincare routine. They not only lock moisture in your skin but also provides an extra boost of hydration. Look for ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter, and nourishing oils like olive, multi fruits, carrot seed, jojoba etc.
Nourish from within
Only external care is not enough for moisturised and healthy skin. One should make some dietary improvements as well. Focus on food high in omega acids, and antioxidants. Maintain your water intake to ensure the body is well hydrated. Remember, what you eat is what you see.
