5 Effective Ways to Avoid Oily Skin in Summer

Temperatures and humidity levels increase in the summer. These changes in the atmosphere cause the sebaceous glands to develop more sebum. This results in unfavourable facial oiliness and even I acne. Dr. Poorva Shah, a renowned Celebrity Cosmetic Dermatologist, gives you 5 easy and powerful shine-proofing tips to protect your face from looking oily all summer.

1.) Use a good cleanser for oily skin- A strict face-washing routine is needed for oily skin. Select a face wash that fights oil and shine while preserving the skin’s natural oils. Use a gentle foaming cleanser with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, which will penetrate the pores and keep them clear of oil. It is sufficient to cleanse your face once or twice a day with a gentle face wash. For the rest of the day, use a face mist to refresh your skin. A good cleanser removes excess sebum (oil) from the surface of your skin, giving it a refreshed appearance and feel. Massage it gently onto your face in circular motions, then rinse thoroughly and pat dry.

2.) Avoid using thick and heavy moisturiser, especially in the day- It may seem counterintuitive, but keeping your skin moisturised is important for oil control. Your sebaceous glands are forced to create more oil to compensate for the lack of oil when you leave your skin dry. Look for a lightweight gel to help provide long-lasting moisturisation and gives a matte finish in the summer. After cleansing, smooth it over your face and hands. These moisturizers will leave your skin feeling light and fresh.

3.) Avoid thick and heavy sunscreens- Use lighter serums and sunscreens to lighten up your skincare routine. If you use a light and water based sunscreen for your skin type, you won’t have to worry about your face looking greasy. Choose a solution that contain physical blockers including zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Chemical formulations are also acceptable; just make sure to select a face-specific gel or light liquid solution. Zinc oxide and niacinamide are both anti- inflammatory and do not promote the processing of oil. When choosing a sunscreen for oily skin, look for one that is both oil-free and non- comedogenic. Reapplying sunscreen at least every two hours— especially after swimming or sweating.

4.) Use blotting paper- If you have oily skin, blotting sheets can be extremely useful. Simply dab one on your face to absorb extra grease during the day. They’re small enough to carry with you at all times. In short, blotting paper is your best friend when it comes to summer skincare. Oil on your face is not always completely avoidable in this season, so stay healthy and blot it away from your T-zone and cheeks with a handy sheet or two.

5.) Move from creams to lotions in the summer- Body lotions designed specifically for summer not only keep the skin sweat-free and fresh, but they also help to treat the flakiness of dry skin. Instead of layering on several items, opt for a lightweight lotion. It primes to smooth skin’s texture, hydrates for long-lasting moisture without making your Skin sticky and oily.
