[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Fad diets are a rage among weight watchers as they promise quick weight loss but mind you, they also cause ‘health loss’ along the way.

Fad diets are extreme diets - they either eliminate certain foods or certain food groups, totally making it an imbalanced diet. Our body has to draw nutrition from all the three food groups i.e. carbs, proteins and fats to remain healthy. Most of these trending diets restrict your carbohydrates and advise you to increase the protein intake along with certain fats. Most popular diets like Atkins diet, Keto diet, low-carb Paleo diet are designed based on low carb high protein model. No doubt, it leads to rapid weight loss initially. When the body does not get its energy from carbohydrates, it starts to draw from stored fat resulting in shedding kilos. But at the same time, you also end up with numerous unpleasant side effects such as fatigue, constipation, dizziness, depression, dehydration, loss of lean muscle, hormonal imbalance, hair loss, and low metabolism. Physical inconvenience apart, fad diets also play with your psyche in the long run. You become averse and develop an unhealthy relationship with food, you also begin to eat with a sense of guilt and anxiety. In extreme cases, fad diets also lead to social isolation. You may avoid going to social gatherings for the fear of consuming food. These deprivation diets are not sustainable. Once the initial euphoria dies down, you will gain the pounds back as quickly as you lost it. So how do we achieve our goal without falling prey to such diets?
  • Balanced diet coupled with exercise is the key.
  • Limit the portion size but include all the food groups. Too little of any nutrient over a long period leads to health problems
  • Combine complex carbohydrates with lean proteins.
  • Exercise, work your way towards weight loss.
Do away with the diets, practice mindful eating, lead a healthy lifestyle and watch your weighing needle inching towards left.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
