GlobalSpa gets in colloquy with Gayatri Rattha, CEO and Founder of Minus Thirty - India’s beloved healthy gelato brand.

Beginning its delicious journey in 2016, Minus Thirty is a gelato brand offering tasty, healthy, and low-calorie gelato. With the aim of providing customers with healthy dessert options, the brand is renowned for its diversity in healthy gelato ice creams - currently available in seven cities in India.

In conversation with the woman behind the brand, GlobalSpa explores with Gayatri Rattha the brand’s conception, future plans, and much more:

1. Starting off, how did the concept for Minus 30 come about?

We have grown up with our mother’s homemade ice-creams and have always loved them. In 2016, we assessed the market in India, and decided to start Minus 30! One of the founders went to Italy and trained as a chef, came back to India, and then created the flavours that we offer today!

2. What are some challenges you've had to face throughout your journey?

Some initial challenges were getting support from the vendors as our MOQ weren't as high as they wanted. Allowing us credit periods, getting the word out to our customers as our marketing budgets were not too high, we relied a lot on our product and word of mouth, both which did work out for us really well.

3. What would you say is the USP of the brand?

All our gelatos are made with the finest and cleanest ingredients. We don’t add any artificial flavours or preservatives to enhance the gelato. Minus 30 also specialises in catering healthy (vegan and sugar free) gelatos, without compromising on taste and quality.

4. As a health-conscious brand, what has the response been like so far? What scope do you see amidst the Indian consumer regarding eating healthy gelato?

The response over the past five years has been extremely promising. As there has been a shift towards a healthier lifestyle and choosing the healthier option, we feel people are naturally gravitating towards Minus 30.

5. How have you been sustaining through the pandemic?

Over the years we have created a strong and loyal team who relentlessly worked through the pandemic to ensure our customer orders were fulfilled and they were satisfied. Working on rotations, with minimal staff and regular sanitizing to ensure their safety.

6. Any success mantra you live by?

The consumer is always right!

7. Lastly, any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

To follow your passion and not give up!
