Immerse yourself in Nature- Green Hiking Trails in Philadelphia

Hiking is a great way to immerse yourself in nature, explore the greener side of a destination, and recharge your batteries. And lucky for those looking for that adrenaline rush, the Countryside of Philadelphia that offers almost 100 miles of trails that will excite beginners as well as advanced hikers. Each one with something special to offer.

But if you are new to hiking, picking the right trail can be difficult. Here are some beginner-friendly treks that will ease you into the world of outdoor adventure and make for an unforgettable experience in your next holiday adventure.

The Audubon Loop Trail

The Audubon Loop Trail is an excellent trail for an easy weekend hike. This paved trail takes you through the home of author and wildlife artist John James Audubon and Lower Perkiomen Valley Park. There are a few steep sections along the trail, but easily manageable. If you are looking to extend your hike, the Audubon Loop Trail also connects to the Schuylkill River Trail and the Perkiomen Trail to form a 6-mile loop. Make sure to look for birds, deer, ducks, and other animals on your journey!

Joseph Plumb Martin Trail in Valley Forge National Historical Park

The Joseph Plumb Martin Trail is the perfect hike for history buffs! Named after the Continental Soldier who camped at Valley Forge, this trail connects several the park’s historic sites, including the National Memorial Arch. While this trail is paved, some sections are hilly and generally not shaded. If you are looking for a bigger challenge, this trail connects to several other park trails.

Cross County Trail

The Cross County Trail is a spur off of the Schuylkill River Trail in Conshohocken. Currently, the trail heads north for three miles before ending in Plymouth Meeting. Planned extensions on the trail will make it 17 miles in length, passing through Fort Washington and into Willow Grove.

Chester Valley Trail

The Chester Valley Trail is a multi-use, rail-to-trail facility that roughly follows U.S. Routes 30 and 202 through central Chester County from West Whiteland Township east into Montgomery County. The trail provides a key connection of “The Circuit”, the planned 750-mile trail network throughout Greater Philadelphia.

The Schuylkill River Trail

The Schuylkill River Trail is a multi-use trail in Southeastern Pennsylvania with a projected length of almost 130 miles. There are currently over 60 miles complete in sections, including a 30-plus mile stretch from Philadelphia to Parkerford. The trail breaks off in Parkerford and picks up again in Pottstown where it continues for about 20 miles to Reading. From there, cyclists can follow a 20-mile signed on-road route to Hamburg. In Hamburg, trail users can access a scenic seven-mile stretch to Auburn in Schuylkill County.

Eastbranch Brandywine Trail

The East Branch Brandywine Trail is a paved multi-use trail that runs along the banks of the Brandywine Creek in both East and West Bradford Townships. The trail is currently 2.4 miles long and can be accessed from several different parking lots.
