India's Unmissable: Akshardham Temple in Delhi

Hailed as an eternal place of devotion, purity, and peace, the Akshardham Mandir is a humble tribute to Bhagwan Swaminarayan, the avatars, devas, and great sages of Hinduism. Those seeking spiritual healing often find themselves found here. India’s Unmissable Experience series is curated by Rupali Dean.

Built from intricately carved sandstone and marble. the Akshardham Temple nestles at the Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi. The murtis of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, his successors, Shri Radha-Krishna, Shri Sita-Ram, Shri Lakshmi-Narayan, and Shri Parvati-Shiva reside in this intricately carved abode. Depending on each visitor’s time, interests, and personal quest, their Akshardham experience is unique to each.

AN ABODE OF PEACE AND HEALING

Take the boat ride through an artificial tunnel, a yagna-kund that is also a synchronized colourful fountain, go for an audio-animatronics show, and peek at the giant movie screen that shows a special movie filmed in over 100 locations in India, with a cast of 45000 people. Several exhibitions are also hosted here. A source of education, information, and inspiration, they are a fourfold combination of art, science, culture, and spirituality.

The Sahaj Anand Water Show is another breathtaking 24-minute experience that unites a variety of intriguing media to bring to life a story from the Kena Upanishad. Multi-color lasers, video projections, underwater flames, water jets and surround sound in symphony with lights and live actors produce a captivating and inspiring presentation. Remember! The Complex is open from 9 am to 6 pm, Exhibitions from 10 am to 5:30 pm, and the musical fountain at 6:45 pm in February. Image Credits: akshardham.com
