Celebrating the Doyenne: Dr. Somdutta Singh

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Dr. Somdutta Singh is a serial entrepreneur, motivational speaker, mentor and advisor, and investor. She is the Founder and CEO of Assiduus Global, The Unspun Group and IRA.

What is your wellness philosophy?

There are two very crucial elements that define my wellness philosophy – physical fitness and mental wellbeing. Both these fundamentals go in concert towards ensuring a person is living a well balanced life. Like I always say, you don’t have to be perfect! You are you. Love yourself. That’s all that matters. #BeYou.

Your success mantra?

Every adversity comes with an opportunity. I’ll give you an example. In 2020, when the world was, and still is, grappling under the pandemic, we were all presented with an intensifying set of challenges. I had two options, to give into the crisis or rise like a phoenix from the ashes. If I had to survive, I knew I had to drive through. I became the first woman entrepreneur to launch a Make in India COVID 19 protection merchandise line that relentlessly catered to hundreds of hospitals, Government agencies, NGOs and frontline warriors pan India.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

INever mix your personal life and business together.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Don’t get sucked into fighting gender biases and stereotypes. Find your niche, set up a solid support system that works for you and let your work do the talking. Tap into your core strengths, patience and perseverance and develop a no-nonsense attitude towards biases.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

IBeing a role model for someone. If I can inspire and motivate more women to break taboos, and work towards achieving their goals, I feel I have been able to accomplish something.
