As Oriflame marked its Silver Jubilee on December 14th, 2020, GlobalSpa gets in a conversation with Mr. Frederic Widell, VP, and Head of South Asia and MD Oriflame India, on the long and successful journey in India.

First of all, congratulations on Oriflame completing 25 years! What according to you were the major milestones Oriflame has achieved in the entire journey?

25 years ago, Oriflame entered India with a mission to fulfil people’s dreams and emerge as the largest direct-selling beauty brand in the world. This journey has been replete with distinct milestones and I am proud to see the brand grow from strength to strength. While every day is a new success story for Oriflame, some of our greatest milestones is empowering individuals and communities with our unique entrepreneurship opportunities. We have also been able to leverage research and innovation to deliver high-quality products that are safe and effective. Moreover, Oriflame has achieved the highest levels of sustainability by sourcing ingredients directly from nature with eco-ethical screening to ensure their safety and efficacy. Oriflame is focused on three sustainable verticals namely water conservation, climate, and forest. Conserving water, using renewable sources of energy, planting trees, and reducing greenhouse impact have been a crucial part of our operations. I am happy to note that Oriflame uses 100% natural-origin exfoliants like almond shells in their scrub products that do not pollute the oceans. Finally, our association with Deepalaya since 2006, which has allowed us to sponsor the education of over 7000 girls till now brings us immense joy.

What is your way forward to completing many more years of achievement in Oriflame?

Having understood the Indian market in these 25 years, we are seeing a growing inclination towards health and wellness products. We will build on this category to continue catering to our audience base in India. Our focus will be on overall health and well-being, immunity-boosting, and of course, beauty products that make people look and feel good. We will also continue to offer entrepreneurship opportunities, helping them fulfil their dreams, work at their own convenience from the safety of their homes, be paid as much as they can work, and be responsible for their own growth.

What according to you is the Indian beauty market lacking in and how can Oriflame help in that?

Oriflame offers products that are inspired by nature and powered by science. Developing safe products has been the overarching goal for Oriflame since its inception. To that end, the brand bans over 1,300 ingredients that are harmful to humans and the environment. Beauty by Sweden is about making the world a better place – and this is exactly what we are doing in India too.
