HOUSE OF ELIXIRS

The IV glow-athon maker Tanya Khubchandani launches a mint, new sprawling outpost of her luxury medical wellness brand, Elixir Wellness, farming impressive numbers in the business of preventive healthcare.

She is a proverbial trailblazer. As founder and CEO of Elixir Wellness, Tanya Khubchandani has been tracing a winning trajectory in the field of luxury medical care, bringing in therapies and treatments from all parts of the world to Mumbai and beyond. An alumna of Columbia University, with credits in health management and policy, she powers Elixir Wellness, which has performed over 45000 IVs to date – each bringing in a treasured vitamin cocktail for better health and glowing skin.

Tanya is an acclaimed author, parenting, and luxury lifestyle content creator (@mommydiaries) and influencer, an avid podcaster (@Spillingfactspodcast) and the founder of Khubchandani Health Center and HCG ICS Khubchandani Cancer as well as Khubchandani Women’s Health Center.

Excerpts from a conversation:

1. What prompted you to start Elixir Wellness in 2022?

After my master's degree in public health in the US, I worked in New York. My exposure to the area of internal medicine drives home the point that the focus there is on preventive care and regular checking of body parameters. Unlike in India, where we do firefighting when the health issues crop up. That is when I decided to shape Elixir Wellness.

2. What does wellness mean to you?

For me it begins with preventive care and then moves into comprehensive care where every part of my body is tended to, from my skin to my muscles, in a way that gives me the best quality of life.

3. How has your journey been so far?

Radical. When I started out, home self-care was picking up post the pandemic. This is a business where I am constantly researching the new developments in science-backed health and wellness. Chembur brings in our latest clinic in Mumbai, following the resounding success of our clinics in Peddar Road, Santacruz and Wadala. It is my aim to bring in elements of biohacking and longevity services to the Elixir umbrella.

4. It is a comprehensive menu with uncommon elixirs on IV. Share with us the latitude of treatments on offer.

We have brought in many firsts in our comprehensive menu, including IVs for  nursing mothers, pregnant women, acne resolution, fat burn, anxiety address, pigmentation-specific elixirs, treating PCOS, athletic recovery, pain relief, body toning, aesthetics, and migraine cocktails. We have tied up with multiple cancer hospitals, facilitating the intake of pure oxygen in a pressurised chamber to better lung strength and promote swift healing for those with diabetes and chemotherapy patients.

5. A golden rule.

As per the Indian Medical Council, the prescription is to be done by a doctor. It is important to understand that the IV administration is not a trend – it is a studied effort, backed by science. We have a panel of eight doctors (including dermatologists, orthopaedics, nutritionists, and mental health professionals) and a consultation is mandatory (and complimentary) before we configure the drip. We offer microbiome testing as well to study the gut axis to assess the root of your problem areas.

6. Which one is your personal fix?

It is customised for me. Just like the IV is customised for all clients post the doctor consultation, based on their requirements. My own IV brings in a combination of glutathione, magnesium, zinc, and amino acids.

7. Are you importing all the ingredients?

No. It is a mix of imported ingredients and those sourced from Indian pharma labs.

8. What are the guidelines?

We do not administer IV to those below 18 years of age. Aadhar checks are mandatory, just like doctor consults, before an IV is configured. All checks and video consults are on the grid even for home visits.

9. Which are the bestsellers?

Wellness and immunity elixirs. We have done a vitamin C IV too that works well for those undergoing cancer treatment.

10. What is the age group that is the most inclined towards elixirs?

Earlier, people in their 30s were the most receptive towards trying IV therapy. There has been a sizable jump in this number, spanning age groups, over the past three years. With growing awareness, greater education, and the decided difference in skin and energy levels, it is a sure win. Clients get in their parents too for treatments.

11. What is the downside?

None. Except people must do a background check on random sources offering to administer IV drips. Choose an authorised centre, a safe place to conduct this monitored process.

12. You have an impressive voice on social media – with @mommydiaries bringing in over 2 million followers and a superb podcast. Are you working on spreading awareness?

Absolutely. Smart self-care is the way ahead. We must discern between safe, authorised sources with certification and random, cheaper available options. I have seen gymnasiums and salons offering IV drips. We must exercise caution and prioritise the correct preventive health care.

13. What have you learnt?

Prioritise yourself. Take time out to realise how you are feeling and be kind to yourself.

There is a difference between speaking wellness and living it. With two children and dividing time between responsibilities at work and home, I realised if I cannot focus on myself, then nothing is worth it. I make use of a redlight panel at home, have set up a sauna at my residence, and perform my breathing exercises for a few minutes before turning in for the day. I believe if you want to do it, you will find a way.

14. What’s next for Elixir Wellness?

Elixir is rapidly growing, with existing 5 locations in Mumbai, 16 locations in Bangalore and 3 locations in Delhi. I want to execute the cellphone model beyond Mumbai in Pune and Nashik. More than 28 centres across the country are using our configured IVs under proper training. We will be expanding our presence further.
