“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Parul Shekhawat is the founder of brand label ' RUAR', a wedding inspired ethnic Indian ensemble with a strong design philosophy.

What is your wellness philosophy?

Like the designs of every Ruar garment, my wellness regime of body and mind are also ‘old skool’ style and simple. Meditation, gratitude and a positive outlook are the ethics I swear by. As they say ‘creativity flows through a positive mind.’

Your success mantra?

My mantra to success is consistency, perseverance and hard work. We are a part of a fast paced world and marking an identity in this era is a challenge. The only hack which would sail the boat when the times go topsy and turvy is hard work. Time is the biggest blessing, it makes you soar high if one is persistent with their efforts so enjoy each moment and continue to take small steps forward.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

As a designer and a business woman a common mistake which we end up making is to forget our initial helping hands. They are in the form of workers, friends, family, clients or other team members. Cherishing those hands who placed you on the path to success is the way to be. ‘BE HUMBLE AND GRATEFUL’.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

My most precious piece of advice to all the women out there is to educate yourself so as to be independent. As an Indian woman we are always taught to be dependent on our fathers, husbands and sons. Break the barrier. We should educate our fellow ladies and daughters to stand on their own two feet. Let us be the ‘Masters of our Destiny’.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

I wouldn’t consider myself a doyenne yet. There is so much to learn and explore in the field of fashion. Revival of our traditions and culture in garments and jewelry is of utmost importance. I take pride to be a part of this extravagant rich Indian culture and heritage. I hope to take this endeavor called RUAR to great heights and create faith in each woman’s heart to become self made.
