Celebrating the Doyenne: Dr. Barira Ahmad

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Dr. Barira Ahmad is a physiotherapist at Potenza Wellness, Hauz-khas, New Delhi.

What is your wellness philosophy?

It has to be dedication and love towards your body. It’s not something that happens overnight, but a lifestyle adaptation that requires consistency and care. Not just superficial, but also from within. Three most important things in my routine would be waking up early and exercising, taking an eight- hour sleep and of course, regular sessions of photo-biomodulation and hyperbaric oxygen therapy for my cellular health at my happy place of work Potenza Wellness, a centre for all your Health and Wellness solution.

Your success mantra?

Smart-work along with hardwork! We are living in a fast-paced world, wherein you have to choose things which are worth investing your energy in. Unlike the old saying, if something is not working well, it is okay to give up and do something which may workout better. Moreover, one should never stop learning! The world is evolving everyday and it is extremely important to update your knowledge with changing time, in whichever profession you practice.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

There are too many! Mistakes are as important in life as doing the right things. In fact, they teach you more. But one thing I learned in my adulthood is that one should start taking care of themselves from teenage as that is the time when the body undergoes a lot of hormonal and physical changes and hence, it is equally important to give the right care in terms of eating well and exercising.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Do not ignore your health. As women, we exhaust ourselves so much that we completely ignore our skeletal and mental health. However, we are more prone to chronic conditions and hormonal issues than men. Accordingly, it is imperative to take extra care of yourself from the very beginning. Hydrate, sleep well and eat right.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

As a physiotherapist at Potenza Wellness, it gives me immense gratification when I see my patients getting better without medications and painful surgeries. I get delighted when their pain reduces, they walk better and their general health improves. Nothing is more satisfying than your patients being thankful to you for a better quality of life.
