Celebrate The Lunar New Year In the Most Authentic Way At Royal China, Delhi

Searching for authentic Cantonese food? Head to Royal China for a Lunar New Year menu that you cannot miss on. Here’s everything we sampled.

The charm of Lunar New Year celebrations lies in their rich traditions, vibrant festivities, and, most importantly, the food. Royal China, nestled in The Chanakya Mall, Delhi, invited me to experience their specially curated Lunar New Year menu, and I walked in with high expectations. The ambiance immediately set the tone with its warm lighting, subtle festive décor, and the pleasant buzz of diners enjoying their meals.

The menu combines traditional dishes with innovative twists. I started with the Dim Sum menu, and had the Mock Duck Poached Dumpling—delicately prepared and served with a light savoury sauce that balanced tanginess and sweetness. This was followed by the Truffle Mushroom Cheese Dumplings, which were rich and flavourful, each bite leaving a lasting impression.

For those who prefer non-vegetarian options, the Basil Chicken Dumpling and Prawn Dumpling are equally noteworthy. Moving to starters, the Sautéed Chicken with Green Chili and Chao Chao Potatoes provided an authentic taste of Cantonese cuisine, offering bold yet balanced flavours.

For the main course, I tried the Lucky Eight Stir-Fried Vegetables with Pan-Fried Noodles and the Chilli Plum Prawns—succulent prawns cooked in a sweet plum sauce infused with chilli and garlic. But let me tell you, the real head-turner was my drink. I had the Umami Old Fashioned, a unique cocktail made with sesame-infused whisky, sweet vermouth, and bitters, served over charcoal ice. The combination of flavours was both distinctive and refreshing. No festive meal is complete without dessert, and Royal China concluded the experience with a Special Chinese Cake. Soft, fluffy, and filled with molten custard, it was the perfect sweet ending to a flavourful meal.

What stood out beyond the food was the impeccable service. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, passionately explaining the symbolism and significance of each dish in the context of the Lunar New Year. This added a cultural and personal touch to the dining experience. Whether you are a connoisseur of Chinese cuisine or someone looking to explore a festive menu, Royal China’s Lunar New Year offerings are a must-try.
