Gearing Up For The Next COVID-19 Wave

Dr. Archana Batra. Dietician and a certified diabetes educator shares a few ways you can gear up for the next wave of the virus, if and when it arrives.

COVID-19 has been making its rounds the past few years. It has kept us at home, restricted us from meeting our loved ones and leading a social life. Losing people because of the virus, isolation, and the scare of being infected has been the hardest part of this virus. The individual who contracts this virus feels the loneliest, as they will be in a room quarantining away from the rest of their people.

With everything we learned from the first and second waves, we are also learning how to be better prepared for the third wave. We have curated a list of things you can do to get geared up if there is an upcoming wave of COVID-19.

Switching back to online mode: Even though we have enjoyed the one or two months we could visit our offices, schools, and colleges offline, it is now time to work from home. With the cases increasing, it is important that we safeguard ourselves and our loved ones. As much as possible, avoid stepping out of your homes unless it is extremely necessary. Request your workplace if you could work from home.

Avoid using public transport: If it is a short commute, then we encourage walking.

Wash your hands with soap and water: This concept has been mentioned before. Ensure you wash your hands as much as you can, even if you’ve only been at home. It is important that if you are stepping out for essentials, carry a hand sanitizer with you. Use it generously and regularly to receive maximum benefits.

Don’t touch surfaces unnecessarily: Avoid touching your face and tables, lift buttons, etc.

Eat your vegetables: This is a good time to load up on those veggies. Try to experiment with new goods and build a healthy diet plan for yourself.

Wear a mask: This one does sound simple, but you will be surprised how many times this step gets missed. Ensure you are wearing a good mask that consists of 3 layers of protection, especially if it is a cloth mask.

Take your vitamins: Ask your doctors to prescribe a good multivitamin for you to build immunity to fight off this deadly virus.

Isolate yourself if you have the mildest symptoms: The decent thing an individual can do is isolate themselves for a few days if they are showing symptoms or have recently heard that they might be exposed to someone who has contracted the virus. Understanding the severity of the situation is essential in such cases.

Building an Exercise Routine: This is key in such hard times. Make sure that you incorporate a good amount of cardio and stretches in your exercise.

6 feet distance rule: Ensure that you are standing 6 feet away from someone you are having a conversation with. Ensure that you wear a mask while you engage.

Sanitize your surroundings and have plenty of ventilation in your rooms: It is essential to wipe down surfaces and keep your homes disinfected. Making sure you have well-ventilated rooms throughout your house will lessen bacteria buildup.
