How to be eco-responsible in your skincare choices?

It is time to go green even in your skincare routine. If you are figuring out how? Here are some easy steps to begin with by Dr. Kiran Sethi.

Our earth is our most valuable resource. But often, when we are staring at that zit on our face, it can feel like the least pressing of our issues. However, when caring for our skin, we can still be responsible for the environment. How do you do that? Check out these four steps to see how to care for your skin, responsibly.

Recyclable Packaging

Always look for the recyclable symbol on your skincare products. Some jars or bottles are non-recyclable, and they are truly damaging the environment. But luckily, most of what you get is recyclable, so it’s not hard at all to find skincare that is kind. Many plastics are recyclable, and glass and metal are always recyclable. Some brands also provide reusable packaging – so you can take your bottles and get refilled. Also, now due to all our customer agitation, brands are becoming more conscious. New York plans to be a zero-waste city by 2030, and Singapore wants to be a zero-waste country as well. So generally, there is a significant shift towards better packaging both from the end of companies and governments. So, don’t fret!

Say No to Plastic Packaging

When it comes to outer cartons – look for recycled or recyclable paper or cardboard. Don’t take that plastic bag or bubble wrap with that packaging and avoid shopping with online portals that engage in excess use of non-recyclable packaging materials. Amazon lets you can opt for the low waste packaging option in your id! I tend to bring my own cotton shopping bag to places I shop and refuse the excess packaging.

Giftwrap ethically

Giftwrap items in recycled paper, or in newspaper! Look for ways to aesthetically highlight your gift without the earth tax. Also, avoid using plastic bags, and don’t overdo the gift paper – I mean who really needs it?

Go Cruelty-Free

When you are preserving the earth, you also need to think of the animals in it. Let’s be real, you don’t need to test any product on animals. Rabbits or rats are not going to have the same skin like humans, and how will you test the effects of a super-ingredient for skin aging on a hamster? Because we never had a suitable way to test cosmetic ingredients, companies used animals as their scapegoats to somehow make people feel safer. Animal testing is not necessary for skincare. And guess what, now there are 3D skin composites that are available to truly test on. So definitely look for cruelty-free on your bottle and avoid animal testing!

These are the easiest ways to go easy on the earth. Keep these in mind when buying your products! And, always recycle or reuse those giftbags!
