Five hair care tips to follow this winter season

Here are a few tips by Advanced Hair Studio experts, to maintain the lustrous mane. Winters bring a lot of unwelcomed stress due to dry scalp, excessive hair fall and weak hair strands. In spite of following the same haircare regime, to many of our amazement, it does not suffice the winter chills and leads to hair damage. The reason behind poor hair quality during winters is the temperature variation indoor and outdoor.  It affects your hair strands, leading to split ends and breakage. To maintain the lustrous mane, here are few tips by Advanced Hair Studio experts:

  • Hair Hygiene
With the fall in temperature, there is a general reluctance amongst people to refrain from regular showers. During winters due to temperature variations outside and in indoors, the dry, windy climate puts a toll on hair health. To maintain the lustrous tresses, it is vital to maintain hygiene standards and avoid infection in scalp.
  • Hair and Body Hydration
Winters dehydrate body and hairs. Drinking a lot of water helps to retain moisture in your hair & scalp and thus, prevents them from drying. Hydration aids the sebaceous glands to secrete oil, which leaves the scalp and hair nourished and healthy.
  • Dry your hair before stepping out
Wet hair exposed to cold air expands the hair shaft, making the hair more prone to breakage. It is an absolute NO for everyone to leave the house with wet hair. It is advisable to give your hair that extra time in the winter to air dry before sauntering out for the day. If that becomes a little taxing, modify your winter hair care routine, wash your hair at night, and let it dry.
  • Avoid heat-heavy styling routine
Taking care of your hair in winter months also means, not to expose it to too much heat from tools such as the hair dryers, tongs, straightening irons and curlers. Excessive heat styling is a major culprit for dry and damaged hair. Heat styling amplifies the already fragile state of the hair during winter months as they extract the moisture from the hair strands. A little heat escape during this month helps in maintaining the overall hair health.
  • Fight the frizz
  • One of the most bothersome things in winters for hair is the static from the hoodies, sweater, scarves, gloves, and beanies. These all seem to gang up on your hair, making it static and a frizzy mess. To tackle this, use a vented hairbrush that has a combination of plastic and boar bristles while combing your hair. Also, wash your hair only with lukewarm water and not hot water, as the latter will strip away the natural oils that protect and nourish your hair.
