We get in a conversation with Tanya Mansotra. Founder of Sohum Wellness Sanctuary, to understand more about this haven.

Sohum embodies a unique approach to Ayurvedic wellness. Could you share the inspiration behind its founding and the philosophy that drives the brand?

Sohum’s name is inspired by the ancient Sanskrit mantra "So-Hum," meaning “I am That.” This mantra reflects the essence of our brand: the idea that we are all part of something greater. Our philosophy integrates Ayurveda with modern wellness practices to create a space where guests can reconnect with themselves and experience holistic healing.

Ayurveda has a rich history, yet many people may not fully understand its benefits. How does Sohum aim to bring authentic Ayurvedic practices to a modern audience, especially here in Dubai?

At Sohum, we embrace Ayurveda’s timeless wisdom but adapt it to modern lives. This is achieved through personalized treatments like Abhyanga, Shirodhara, and unique therapies like Navara Kizhi and Kati Vasti. By combining ancient knowledge with contemporary therapies, we make Ayurveda accessible and relevant to today’s wellness seekers with special attention to detail such as the overall luxury experience and more easily acceptable blend of unique in-house formulated oils.

The new space in Dubai promises to be more than just a wellness sanctuary. What experiences and treatments can guests look forward to that set Sohum apart from other wellness retreats?

Sohum offers a variety of experiences that go beyond traditional wellness. Guests can enjoy Ayurvedic treatments like Panchakarma, yoga classes ranging from gentle Hatha to more dynamic Vinyasa, and healing practices like sound therapy and crystal healing. Our sanctuary is designed to immerse guests in an environment of balance and healing, with every room reflecting the five elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space), enhancing the healing process. Plus, we have also created a unique restaurant and café that makes it possible for anyone to spend the full day at our sanctuary, in the middle of such a busy city like Dubai, it is truly an oasis.

Incorporating Ayurveda into daily life can be challenging for many. What practical advice or simple rituals would you suggest for people who are new to this ancient science?

Ayurveda encourages small lifestyle changes that align with natural rhythms, that of course our specialized doctors can better guide each person individually. The beauty of Ayurveda that its core is also to with prevention ancient medicine that today modern science is starting to recognize its remarkable benefits on longevity and inflammation. Ayurveda focuses on sattvic food, which is based on wholefoods and in respecting the body’s cycles and gut health, which today is known as circadian rhythm and gut health. We see people having turmeric lattes and that is a practice that I have personally been drinking since young and it is now common knowledge how powerful these simple habits can be in reducing infections and inflammation.

Sustainability and natural living are becoming increasingly important in wellness spaces. How does Sohum integrate these values into its practices and environment?

Sustainability is one of the key principles we wish to implement at Sohum. Our restaurant, TAAMA, practices zero-waste cooking, using every part of the plant from root to flower. We also source organic and locally grown ingredients and integrate eco-friendly practices in the sanctuary’s design. This aligns with our holistic approach to wellness, focusing on nourishing the body, mind, and planet.

As you prepare to launch the new sanctuary, what is the one message or feeling you hope every guest takes away after experiencing Sohum?

After experiencing Sohum, I hope guests leave feeling a profound sense of peace and rejuvenation, having rediscovered their connection to themselves. Our goal is for each person to feel balanced, empowered, and inspired to continue their wellness journey with the tools and wisdom they’ve gained during their time with us.
