Healthcare industry is a multi-billion industry with thousands of people approaching. But is all that medicine just a facade for another money making industry? Or are we just too skeptical with ourselves?
Traditional medicine has been part of various cultures for thousands of years. Our ancestors relied on them and our grandparents still swear by them. Meanwhile, the changing outlooks and the new generation seems to have adopted a different ideology that conventional means of medicine or "allopathic medicine" is the only way to achieve good results. Question is, which one is true and which one is better?
ALLOPATHY
Allopathy or allopathic medicine is termed as as a science-based modern approach to the treatment of symptoms of diseases or illness with the aid of medicines, surgery and other such procedures. It's primarily "evidence based" medicine.
Allopathy, if we say, is still an infant concept since it's only been in work for a decade or so. But that's not a hindrance for consumers since the medicines heavily rely on science and evidence. Although it is a good thing to start with, the fact that most vitamins and medicines don't work as they should or at all remains a questionable lot.
TRADITIONAL MEDICINE
We all know traditional medicines have been in use since thousands of years and go back to a long time of history when modern medicine wasn't even a thing. And most of them turned out just fine! Chinese medicine is still a huge thing around the world, Indian medicine (Yoga being just one), Korean herbal teas - these ancient or so called "alternative" methods are still applied by people and they have a strong reason to do so: they actually work.
THE DEBATE
According to reports in 2002, 62% people opted for alternative therapies out of which nearly half of them cited 'praying' as their form of health therapy. It's not because they considered modern medicine or their practitioners illiterate, unworthy or uneducated; they just didn't find the results from it.
That's widely because allopathy treats the body as a physical matter, so you can't really expect it to treat your emotional or spiritual injuries. Traditional means of meditation, yoga, herbal tea, healthy food - most of these aids us because they encourage an overall health buildup.
A growing body of science also shows that opting for a holistic approach in health can yield better results than modern medicines. Eating healthy food like vegetables and fruits and exercising regularly for reducing cardiovascular risks can make a difference. Traditional medicine truly is a more in-depth approach to how one can recover, heal and build. But that is not to say it's an all size option, for all, every time.
Allopathy is a savior in times of medical emergencies where you simply can't drink a cup of tea to glue back your broken bones or stitch close a horrid cut. You have to refrain from putting in your point about allopathy being useless here.
THE CONCLUSION
Just because you spend your Sunday refreshing with a fruit face mask doesn't mean you're throwing away all sense of science, or investing more in regular exercise and eating healthy doesn't mean your body won't seem to fail you at some point that will urge you to go see the doctor. As the doctrine goes - "man assists, but nature heals."
