As summer is at its peak, it gets extremely difficult to convince yourself to work out in this scorching heat. However, one should never compromise when it comes to their fitness and health, so we bring you 7 ways to stay healthy even in summers.
Make walking a habit while you talk or work
Walk, walk, and walk! Walk while you talk, walk while you work and walk while you read. Even before you start to shed sweat, you will be shedding the extra pounds that you have gained. You can walk in malls, at home, at the office and so many other places and not necessarily under the sun. Walking has many benefits like improving your balance and coordination, strengthens your muscles and bones, and helps prevent or manage many diseases including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.
Swimming is the best way to stay cool
For Harshita, founder of Mile Active, Swimming is her favorite exercise, "Swimming engages multiple muscle groups while being low-impact and gentle on the joints. It keeps you cool throughout, which is perfect for hot summer days." She also suggests running after sunset, "a lot of us tend to avoid running during summer, purely because the thought of sweating it out seems daunting during hot summer days. But in fact, a run can turn out to be extremely refreshing, as long as it’s post the sunset. Our bodies work harder in warmer temperatures, which improves our cardiovascular fitness and endurance over time."
Meditation for relaxing the mind
One of the easiest workouts is meditation. Just after you wake up, exhale the negativity and inhale the positivity. Meditation is the most underrated form of a workout which helps your body entirely, as it is extremely helpful in calming your nerves, helps you concentrate, slows down aging and improves cardiovascular and immune health.
Jump and Skip
While it can be hard to find a workout plan that is suitable to you, jumping ropes can be a great way to go at it. A 10 minute jump at a trampoline is equal to half an hour spent running. Other benefits to jumping are it stimulates metabolism, strengthens muscles, improves a sense of balance and many more. Not only will it lighten your mood, but will also burn the excess fat and keep your body toned. Not to forget it is good for your blood circulation too.
Choose the stairs
Cheat on escalators and elevators and make stairs your friends. It burns more calories per minute than jogging, reduces cardiac risk by more than 30%, helps control weight, builds muscle tone, saves up to 15 minutes a day and cuts carbon. The cherry on the cake is that it is easy to build into your life and make it a habit. The more you climb, the more your body burns hip fat, and your blood cholesterol levels remain in balance.
Spin Classes
Spin classes at Revolve Fitness Studio in Juhu, Mumbai, are a high-energy, cardiovascular workout that’s perfect for staying in shape during the summer. Led by motivational instructors and set to upbeat music, these classes will have you sweating and smiling. This improves cardiovascular health, burns calories, and strengthens legs and core.
